KESSEY

Featured Replies

Hi all

New to the forum, so please be kind!

I'm going to be upgrading my 2013 SII Superb to a SIII (likely to be 2016 or 2017 L&K 150 DSG) in the new year. I like to start my research early and have already learned a lot from the forum. But I have a really numpty question and a search didn't turn up any answers - sorry if this has been done before.

If you have KESSEY, how do you know if your car is locked? Unless I've missed the point, KESSEY means it is always open when you are near to it.

Thanks in advance

Jeff

You touch the outside of the door handle, you hear a beep and the sound of the doors locking. The door mirrors also turn inwards. The car only opens when you touch the inside of the door handles and not when you just approach it.

Welcome

Just because the car has KESSY does not mean it will unlock (or lock) automatically it still required input from the person with the key to touch the door handle.

The door mirrors also fold when the car is locked... a great visual confirmation that the car is locked.

The led light in the door panel will flash. The doors aren't automatically open when you are near them btw.

Thanks for the quick replies all - really helpful.

It's not like the old Renault idea of simple proximity. To open you simply put your hand into the handle as you normally would and the car unlocks. To lock the car you touch the small button on the outside end of the handle.

I simply flick that button with my finger and it locks. Then usual beep/flash and the mirrors fold in automatically.

Wouldn't be without it now I have had it.

p.s. make sure it is working when you test the car. Some of the earlier ones were a bit temperamental. My latest (MY17) is much more sensitive than the MY15 I had before

Thanks Sagalout, especially for the warning re earlier models. I'm only at the early stages of research so it may change, but I am leaning toward MY16 / MY17 as it seems some of the features I am keen on (traffic jam assist etc) seemed to come in with MY16. But will certainly keep it in mind if looking at an earlier model.

You can, if you wish, pull the door handle in the first few seconds after it is locked to physically check that it is locked. I do like to hear the beep to confirm it is locked and nothing has interfered with the process.

As above, there is an LED on the inside of the drivers door that flashes when the car is locked.

The mirrors also fold in when the car is locked, but this is set in the infotainment system, so check.

You can also use the Skoda Connect app on a smartphone to check if your car is locked.

My experience is hit and miss.

My current garage is underground with no mobile signal so Skoda Connect only has the status of the last transmission before the moment the signal was lost (when I drove into the garage).

In other words, lock/unlock status is often incorrect if I use underground private parking where there is no mobile signal.

Where I work, however, it works a treat.

Silly that the data is not provided over WLAN - then it wouldn't need to go via Skoda - but my mobile is providing internet to the car and can't be hotspot server and WLAN client simultaneously, or so I understand. That aspect of connectivity was hit and miss because the dealer didn't set it up for me, I had to do it all myself.
