Fabia Mk1 automatic door locking

Featured Replies

Hello.  I'm a new member so apologies if this has been covered in another topic - please direct me there if it has.

I have a late Mk1 Fabia Sport 64bhp (2007).  The doors automatically lock when you reach 10mph.  Over the last year or so, they have started unlocking themselves again, at various speeds.  If I drop below 10mph and then exceed 10mph again, they re-lock, only to unlock again.

This seems to be worse in damp weather and went away in warm dry weather in the summer.  Skoda dealer has suggested their mechanics examine the wiring in each door (about £25 a door, I think).  When I asked the Service Receptionist what controls this automatic locking, she said nothing controls it.  Unwilling to believe the car just does it because it thinks it's a good idea, could anyone tell me what does control it and what the fault might be here?  I thought perhaps damp in the driver's door switch but I'd appreciate any advice / experience those in the forum could offer.

I'd be more suspicious of the interior lock/unlock centre console switch and wiring.

I coded this out of my Polo (with VCDS, here's how) 'cos I found it irritating and no use to me, and it doubles the wear and tear on all the lock motors/microswitches/mechanisms.

If you do want it working, it involves the central convenience module above the clutch pedal, and the wiring between it and the various locks, I guess. I can look up the details of the wiring at the weekend if it's useful. There are some scans of Haynes wiring diags somewhere on here that might suffice.

The module looks like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Orig-Komfortsteuergerat-VW-Polo-9N-Skoda-Fabia-6Y-Seat-Ibiza-6L-6Q0959433H-ZV/180978804394?epid=1817038834&hash=item2a232d66aa:g:uCkAAOSwLzdWTzdg

I'd think that it will be in one of the door wiring or locks and from what you have written, shortly after the doors have been unlocked, the CCM senses that and if the car is travelling over 10MPH it relocks them.

Are there any measuring blocks on VCDS that can guide you to a changing input ?

That's a good question.  I can have a look at that over the weekend.

For what it's worth, here are the measuring blocks I can see on my (2-door) Polo:

Screenshot 2017-11-12 14.43.38.png

Screenshot 2017-11-12 14.44.18.png

So within the above are the various states of the door contacts, user door controls and other inputs.

So @RonBingley, it would be a good guide to log those measuring blocks or have a passenger monitor them to see what changes unexpectedly when the issue occurs.

If you don't personally have VCDS then have a look in the Forum VCDS Section to find somebody local to you on the map. I am in NE London for example.

Anti-hijack is what the feature is called in VCDS as it shows up in the Fabai  from what I remember....I disabled it on my old car...& it sounds likes damp has got at the electrical contacts in the door controller unit/central convenience module..

..unplug all connectors & spray with an evaporating electrical contact cleaner...
