Why 1.0 octavia

Featured Replies

Primary reason I bought a 1.0 Octavia was I have to get my children mobile.

I work shifts and live in the countryside.

I wasn't giving up my BMW 520d to drive a p.o.s. 1 litre ancient Yaris or similar

(Pre requisite in this country to insure new driver regardless of age is 1 litre car and still costs 1800 euro).

Given the above and having driven the focus/civic/Kia/Hyundai options the Octavia stands head and shoulders above them all.

The piddly little lawnmower engine is very charachterful and power is better than adequate, refinement very good, ride quite good, handling and driving dynamics are fine/ok,standard equipment is generous and you need to go out of your way to specify things like park assist thank god,and will most likely better the 40mpg  the BMW was getting also the spaciousness advantage of the car over its competitors is considerable.

In the meantime I'm driving a 200euro Almera till the Octavia turns up,should make the transition easy

Ford do a Mondeo with a 1.0 Ecoboost and 125 ps, and forgetting RRP's you get one for under £16,000.

There are options out there for family sized transport with small capacity engines at not too much money.

Indeed they do,

But not in Ireland,

Also a physically very large car

1.0 litre octavia style here with metallic is 25850euro and 0% PCP at the moment,

Another very compelling argument for the skoda

You must be a fisherman.

200 mm longer and the same with the wheel base, and 150 mm narrower.  Difference between Ooo & Ahhh!

8inches isn't insignificant,

Wouldn't have thought it narrower tho,

Much more difficult to place for the newbie driver than the Octavia mind,to illustrate the point said learner can put my old range rover anywhere, and can't park the wife's C4.

I am probably wrong as there are figures and real figures including mirrors width.

As to a Range Rover old or not, then sitting up high makes a difference.  As Skoda take into account as they like to even put Taxi sized cars on stilts,

or visually so.

It's actually quite interesting just how weildy different things are re their size,

18 foot long square box with decent mirrors you can see out of (ie rangie ) versus I dunno something like a Nissan Juke (small but full of curves)

I just found the Octavia weildy for the want of a better word, kinda going off on a tangent a bit though I just felt all round the baby Octavia ticked the most boxes given the circumstances.

Fisherman ?,that's for when I get my boat...,....... perhaps when I retire.

I'm afraid I'm not equipped to comment.....

On a serious note,I would have thought that a 1.0 engine in an Octavia wouldn't be much fun to drive being that it is quite a heavy body for a 1.0 to haul around.

More torque and where needed (and some more hp) means that even of not more fun than a 1.2TSI there can be better economy at UK NSL's and even above those.
