Rough road pack

Featured Replies

If I order an 1.5 tsi SE spec Octavia III with the rough road pack option, does anyone know how difficult it is to remove the engine under tray(s) to get access to the sump plug and oil filter. Using only a car jack to slightly lift the car on the drive if necessary.

i.e. are the screws/bolts near to the sides of the vehicle.

I want to be able to change oil and filter myself.

Will you not void the warranty if you change the oil on a new car?

After the warranty expires I will do my own servicing. I keep cars for a long time and have found that those with the least problems are those that are kept away from dealers.

I need to know if the rr under tray can be removed without having to have the car on ramp.

there are 3 bolts at rear of tray on subframe, & two bolts left front & two bolts right front. All bolts hex 13mm I think & 20Nm torque up to.

You also have 3 tx star screws down one side with join to wheel arch liner & 4 down the other side...

tray is a couple of kg so heavy ..ish...to refit get front tabs over the front lower bumper lip (you will see) & lift tray up & insert one bolt in centre of rear section into the subframe..

It shouldn't void the warranty as long as you can prove (via an invoice) of the genuine parts and grade of oil put into the car.

Many thanks for the information Dave! I thought I might not get an answer...

In your opinion do you think all bolts are accessible (especially the centre one on the subframe)  just by using the wheel jack to lift the side?  Lying on the ground, arm stretched out.....

depends on how long your arms are...:D

I retro fitted this skid tray to my car...so yes with one jack on one side it can be done, lie on back feet facing the rear or out to side of car reach in ...but to get the rear bolts its a stretch around the wheel..so I go in from the front & crawl right under the car....

Mind you I have two 3tonnes heavy duty trolley jacks & concrete garage floor.....so one jack each side...

Forgot to mention...

When refitting, get the front tabs located in then, rear centre bolt in....& do up until its tight but still allows the tray to slide......you need this movement to then go back & fit all the other bolts & screws...again tight but still allow side to side movement.... otherwise you have problems getting various plastic side bits aligning up right to fit the screws if you just bolt the tray up tight with the first bolt!!
