Strange Advisory notice item on MOT

Featured Replies

On my recent MOT I had the following advisory

'undertrays fitted obscuring some components'

This must be a common issue with all Octavias then.

Youll probably find it’s an “issue” with most modern cars. Engine covers fitted is also another one. An arse covering exercise for MOT testers.

That's a "cover your arse" comment that some MOT testers use so that if corrosion is found on a structural or safety component above the undertrays then they can't be accused of not reporting it.

Undertrays are fitted on every vehicle, not just Octavias, so logically this advisory should be on every MOT report...

@AtomCom - It's called "covering your posterior" and basically says that "I'm not allowed to remove these bits and can't see anything they cover but can't fail what I can't see". And yes that should happen a lot on Octys, more so on diesels.

Sounds like a change to the MOT rules needs to be made then.  A MOT test is there to check the road worthiness of a vehicle, so just to say I could not check something so I ignored it makes the whole test a bit worthless.  Should it not be the case that a car should not be allowed to be passed until it is all checked?

If I wanted to than I could put covers around my brakes, exhaust, maybe even my suspension?

Had it on every MOT since about 2010. The MOT is pretty much a visual check so dismantling the car does not happen. Our earlier Focus had an engine shield but since the car was serviced and MOT'd at the same time it was off for the oil change, presumably they were organised and checked the body etc whilst it was off. The 2010 Ceed ahd a shield but the garage always noted it despite doing the service/MOT together.

No stranger than , 'Could not check seat belt as child seat in place'.

Or now coming in the New MOT Examination that a Loose Steering wheel may detach'  will be 'Dangerous' and a Fail,

yet just now can be 'An Advisory'.

You probably already have covers on the brakes (called dust or spray shields usually); take the wheels off and look.

I had a 2005 Kia Sorento  2.5 diesel auto from new and every MOT without exception stated sill covers fitted partial examination only , engine cover fitted partial examination only.

Now driving 66 Octy 2.0 SE L with dsg and loving it.
