The Lower Grille.................

Featured Replies

Is the lower grille on the Pre FL Vrs Bonded in or can it be removed ?  On my MkII Vrs I removed the grille  to put mesh on the ENgine side to stop stones etc etc damaging the Air Con Radiator

I'm thinking of doing the same on my 230

Following with interest...I'm undecided whether to wrap the lower lip on mine to create something similar to this:

I thought you were a fan of black spoilers :giggle:

The middle ventilation grill is just clipped into place and can easily be removed

I had one holed  on my FL MKII Vrs and my MKIII 63 plate Tdi Vrs got holed as well.  Last Saturday on the A1 in North Yorkshire there was a Gritter in the middle lane going south, dropping grit. I was travelling North. It was travelling so fast it was also grItting the North Bound carriageway. It was like driving in a Sand storm.  Theres so much rubbish on the roads I'm supprised I/others havent suffered more damage. Theres Condensors aren't cheap.

I think the vRS lower grill is a bumper off job sadly - I'm happy to be corrected but a cursory look on Erwin suggests otherwise.

I think you right Sir, I've been out and had a good old pull at it and it won't move. On my Ex MKII FL Vrs the lower was a doddle to remove. I don't fancy removing the bumper so I might have to hav a re think

Thanks

Mesh will also reduce the airflow ( I was staggered by how much, see Guy Martin's transit) & therefore, the cooling

I had a secondary mesh grill to protect the condenser on my Mark II FL - never had any issues.

On my FL MKII I removed the grill and fastened some B&Q thin Aluminium mesh the the Engine side with wire ties.  No over heating problems.  A few quid and an hours work might save a few hundrew pounds in the long run.

The lower grill.just clips off with plastic lugs

Remove the number plate, then start as one of the sides, that will pop out the top and side. Then work your way very slowly along the top. There is a bug every 3 inches or so.

Once the tops are out. Go to the bottom at one side, gently pry the bottom one out then you can slowly work along the bottom lugs and remove it.

It is easy to scratch the bumper so may be worth running some masking tape first to protect it from your trim tools.

Took me about 5-10 minutes to get it off as it's quite stiff and stubborn
