MKIII MY17 vs MY18

Featured Replies

Hi guys/ Gal’s,

New to the forum so please bare with if posting incorrectly.

Just got hold of my new MY18 VRS TSI 230   BDP + and was wondering what the upgrades/ downgrades were compared with the MY17?

Its my first Skoda having moved from Ford for the first time so still playing around with it but there seems to be a few things missing. For instance HBA ( labelled as stand equip) and speed sign recognition.

Been in touch with dealer who is chasing up but would like a guru to confirm before escalating it higher.

Also a bit ****ed that the Amundsen says doesn’t have a CD player as this wasn’t explained at Order. That said the car drive and handling is great and pleasurable.

Any thoughts people??

I'm going to guess           Black Design Pack Plus       I win........................   I don't know what   ???? means though

  • That's exactly what it does. It serves a reminder in Maxidot (and Nav screen if you have it) as to what the speed limit of the road is. No warning for speeding. Can be handy if you're on busy, unfamil

  • Beat me to it. I just went outside to take some pictures (to paint a thousand words...) If you have the option for Light Assist, this is what is also know as High Beam Assist or Intelligent

HBA has never been standard as far as I'm aware, but can be enabled via VCDS.

Traffic sign recognition was never offered as an option in the UK. Again, can be enabled via VCDS.

Yeah they very quietly changed the spec to not include a CD player when they brought in the MIB2 infotainment systems for MY16...there were quite a lot of peed off people when it happened!

Hi guys.

BDP+ = Black Design Package +

ahenners,

cheers for the reply and the heads up on VCDS.  See attached regards Light assist from ŠKODA July broucher that order was placed from. Clear states it’s standard kit. Can’t find the speed sign recognition but deffo saw it at time of order as well. Were’nt make or break order items but nevertheless I would expect should be on if standard in broucher.

GoneToBeemer,

Yeah was pretty ****ed when opened the glove box to insert my CD on day one:-((

Guys before I head off with regards to the VCDS. Can you point me in the right direction in the North East (Middlesbrough area) were I may get help with the VCDS if I get no joy with the dealer.

Thanks again guys...

Can you post the rest of July brochure bud?

Hi Jayd,

Looks like the July broucher is much the same as Apr one.

Nov broucher has changed though.

Under Light assistant clearly described auto High beam on/ off function. HBA in my mind.

Will upload the full Jul broucher later tonight when I get in.

This function combines with the satnav? if you have no nav then is there any reason to enable it?

It also uses the lane assist camera to actively read the signs.

yes but what does it do with the data? warn you are travelling to fast? in maxidot? i dont get the purpose of it unless you have nav . I have MIB1 with no nav so theres no point in enabling it for me?

Hi JohnnyType2,

The MKIII VRS MY18 has both Lane assist and Nav on the Amundsen Sys. I believe it’s MIB2 reading other posts but could be wrong.

All TSR does is display the Maximum speed for the road/section of road you a travelling on. The display is in Max-Dot and the Sat Nav display.

That's exactly what it does. It serves a reminder in Maxidot (and Nav screen if you have it) as to what the speed limit of the road is. No warning for speeding. Can be handy if you're on busy, unfamiliar roads. Especially more so without Nav, as the speed limits are shown on the Nav screen from map data for a lot of roads.

@RoboOp I think looking at the brochure, the first entry is the HBA - it's the intelligent light assist which is an option on the VRS + 245, but standard on L&K. I think the second entry is actually supposed to be the Automatic Lights, but they have made an error with the description. Hence why it's simply "light assistant" and not "intelligent light assistant with high beam control". Frustrating from your perspective sure, and worth seeing what the dealer will do for you, but as it can be enabled retrospectively, it's not the end of the world :)

@Auric Goldfinger As per the bit above I don't think it was standard even on the 245.

Going back to the HBA.

The FL Vrs has LED lights not Xenons. Doesn't the high beam work differently to HBA by lowering one side of the high beam in stead of high beam just turned on and off. If a car approaches the o/s light lowers to prevent blinding the on coming car, once the car has passed the light goes back to it's set position

Thanks guys. Will see what the dealer comes up with and post back.

One other thing guys and sorry if it’s in the wrong area.

If I get hold of a Columbus head unit would it be as easy as just swapping over with the Amundsen sys and would everything work?  Looks like all the connections on the back are the same.

No, that’s the Dynamic Light Assist function which I’m lead to believe isn’t possible with the LED lights installed on the FL O3 models. All that is possible is Light Assist (also known as HBA) which is a simple on/off of the high beams when an oncoming car is detected by the windscreen mounted camera.

might be worth while enabling it then anyway.

I know from experience that it won’t work and you will get an error message. Feel free to try though. I’d love to be proved wrong!

My bad. Thought you were referring to the HBA post just before yours.

With regards to swapping the head unit, it should be possible, but some coding required in VCDS.
