My bad. Thought you were referring to the HBA post just before yours.

With regards to swapping the head unit, it should be possible, but some coding required in VCDS.

i have HBA working perfectly on my MY14 vRS [lane asssist] now im really confused. i was wondering if TSR was worth enabling if you dont have NAV. I would ove an MIB2 amundsen or columbo swap but at 1400 euro no chance!

I'm going to guess           Black Design Pack Plus       I win........................   I don't know what   ???? means though

  • That's exactly what it does. It serves a reminder in Maxidot (and Nav screen if you have it) as to what the speed limit of the road is. No warning for speeding. Can be handy if you're on busy, unfamil

  • Beat me to it. I just went outside to take some pictures (to paint a thousand words...) If you have the option for Light Assist, this is what is also know as High Beam Assist or Intelligent

It’s only an aid which pops up the last identified speed limit sign on the top of the maxi dot display. It’s not perfect and does sometimes miss signs. Having said that, it picks up matrix signs on managed motorways. If you don’t have onboard Navigation, then it’s up to you to decide the effectiveness/usefulness. You could always disable it afterwards?

Hi stepdavi,

Thanks for the feedback. If I understand you right then yours has the HBA but not the TSR.  Just waiting on the dealer now getting back to me. Guessing I’ll get some waffle at first.

I'm might be bit stupid I haven't used hba or even know if I have it. The light pattern changes with speed automatically. Sorry to be vauge.

Got my 230 3 weeks ago.  The light assistant works different with the led lights, it decides totally what light is best automatically. All you need to do on the infotainment in the “light assistant” option is pick early-late. If you look at the stalk that controls the high beam, unlike other cars, you will only be able to flash (pull stalk) the main beams the push (on constant) does not work/not there. The car decides when high beams are required other than the flash.

What you have described is exactly what my pre-facelift with Xenons does. So it doesn't really work differently with the LEDs :tongueout:

Don’t know if it is or not. First Skoda, so presume light assist works the same for both

Did you purchase Intelligent light assist or not when you purchased the car? This option you describe is missing on my infotainment set up.

No buddy, didn’t order that. Options had - Columbus, Black Pack, Alcantara seats, Heated seats and spare wheel. The “light assist” option is in: vehicle - settings - light assist. There’s then options for early/late (think there’s 3 options in total)

and on my Pre FL Vrs also with xenons and HBA

My understanding is that this only affects how soon the automatic headlights come on. It has no bearing on HBA.

Somethings gotta be controlling the high beam as there is no means of switching them on, only to flash them. Must admit I love the car but finding Skoda manuals etc a little lacking!

Deffo missing the ‘Light Assist’ option on mine fella. Thanks for confirming as it gives me more ammo to through at them when they get in touch. Will try and push the TSR but prob need a VCDS to activate.

Need to start looking locally for anyone willing to give it a blast.

It's the camera also used by the Lane assist that determines whether high beam should be on, or whether the beam should be dipped due to cars ahead, cars oncoming etc.

If you have High Beam assist it does it, if you don't, then it's manually toggled by pushing the stalk away from you/back towards you for high/dipped beam.

So effectively, Lane Assist is also Light Assist on ours?

You can tell if you have HBA, lights in auto and push the left hand stalk away from you and let go. At the bottom of the Maxi Dot, in the middle you should see a main beam symbol in white with the Letter "A" in it. no symbol, no HBA. Only works when lights are in Auto.

No, they are 2 separate functions, but use the same hardware to perform their function.

Definitely no HBA, didn’t order it. But, Light Assist is/should be standard on vRS. Can’t figure out how to make it work/if I have it now! On the left hand stalk, it only functions for a flash (pull towards) does nothing when pushed away. Light switch is in auto mode.

As @Auric Goldfinger mentioned, if you have it, when you push the stalk away and the light switch is set to Auto, you should see a main beam symbol with an "A" overlaid, in the Maxidot screen (centre one between rpm/speed dials)

Said that’s for HBA, I know I don’t have that. Is it the same marker for Light Assist then?

Reading back I think I've misread a couple of posts and confused the two techs - not helped by the fact they are almost identically named and the topic of conversation keeps switching between them!

Light Assist is simply Auto headlights - uses the Rain Light sensor to work out if the headlights should be on or not. The settings you mentioned about early, normal late have some bearing on this. To use it you just switch the lights to Auto. This has been standard on the VRS since the introduction of the MK3.

HBA - or Intelligent Light Assist is the thing that determines whether high beam is used or not automatically and dips the beam if required. This uses the Lane Assist camera to perform this function. The stalk is pushed back and there is a high beam symbol with an "A" shown.

Hope this clarifies.
