Replaceable filter in the Haldex 4x4 system?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, this is a pretty technical question but Im trying to ascertain exactly what gets done when the haldex oil is changed. Is it simply a change of oil (as I originally thought) or is there a haldex filter involved in the system that also requires changing?

My haldex oil change is due but Ive now heard some really bad stuff regarding the quality of work at the dealer Ive booked into this wednesday for the work to be done at. Hence Im now looking elsewhere. Ive phoned around a few dealers since and one says there is a filter that also needs changing but another says there is no such filter; its purely the change of oil! Both agree there is a 'special' tool required to do the job otherwise Id do it myself! :(

Heeeeeeeelp. What exactly should I be expecting from the dealer/garage?

Cheers in advance,

Lee

20,000 miles - Haldex oil

40,000 miles - Haldex oil and filter

New Octavia however has a lifetime filter and just has oil changed every 40k

Does anyone know where to buy this special tool for the haldex oil filter change?

Had mine done on Saturday. I was surprised to find there was a filter involved as I wasn't charged for one before. The car has done just under 80,000 and the same garage did the service around 40,000. They did remark then that mine was the first they'd done the job on because it was the highest mileage 4x4 they dealt with. They had a changed of staff since then so they must have got someone a bit more knowledgeable who did more than half the job.

Deffo needs a special tool. I seem to remember that the filter is part of a funny cartridge and the plug might not be the conventional type - requires sealant?

The Service Schedule (service record booklet) dces state that a Haldex oil change is needed every Inspection Service and an oil filter change every 60,000 km (40,000 miles). There is a picture of the filter removal tool in the link below, and you should be able to order one through any VAG dealer. I seem to recall a price of circa
