Very nice car and colour combo,  hopefully it will be reliable and not chew up tyres.

Just can't get over how long it is. And how well it handles for a boat!

I love the feature called dynamic mode where the car has a chequered flag button. Push it and the clocks screen goes red and if you select S on the gearbox you get the gear number in a big circle on the screen too.

Going back to the garage tomorrow to rectify the Reduced Performance error.

Dealer has put me in touch with a local Jaguar Specialist so it's going in this afternoon to be diagnosed/resolved hopefully!

How much does a broken Jaguar cost nowadays? Ballpark.

...........about as much as one that isn't broken

So it's a feature then?

Sounds like this Jaguar dealer is helping Chris as they are sending it to a local specialist.

The normal dealer response is " They all do it " or "No fault Found "     Hope it sorts the problem for you.

If it costs the same as an unbroken one why not just get your money back and buy a working one?

The specialist was really good. Found the problem straight away. For some odd reason JLR use a plastic part for a high pressure manifold or something. It's split. So there is no pressure, hence my Restricted Performance mode.

Quick call to the dealership I bought it from and the work was authorised, rather than take it back to them. It's an 8 hour labour job though and the replacement part is £200.

Interestingly when the specialist called up the Jaguar dealer to get the price for the part they said they had a few JLR cars in the workshop with the same issue, but no recall had been issued.

So yes, probably a feature. The rest of the car is lovely though. Will get some pics up soon!

@Chris     Glad it's all sorted,

I should just stop having cars.

Started the Jaguar in Friday and got a "Charging System Fault" so naturally, ignored it. Moved the car around on the drive and left it. Roll on to tonight, switched it on to go and get a bit of diesel ready for the journey to the garage in the morning and had every error in the world. ABS, Suspension, Traction, Gearbox...everything.

Got to the petrol station, realised I was on the wrong side of the pump, went to restart and nothing. Had to call the RAC who found a loose battery connection. Got me home with a jump pack permanantly connected and then it died again. Now got to get it recovered in the morning to the specialist to be fixed properly along with the original fault. Grrrrr

It's been recovered to the Specialist. Let's see what happens next.

Alternator is a gonner.

Welcome to JLR ownership.

The XJ is a bloody lovely looking car and was the nicest interior I'd been in until the new XC90.  What colour is the velvet in your glovebox?  Me and my dad went to buy at a Portfolio (not a LWB) at a Guy Salmon Jag dealership (my dad actually paid a deposit for it over the phone before driving a couple of hundred miles).  When he was just about to take it for a test drive and the dash lit up like a Xmas tree subsequently the test drive was then cancelled.  Needless to say he decided that it didn't bode well on an almost new car; he got a refund and spent his cash on a Jeep Grand Cherokee summit which he's had 2 years now and loves it.

The dual view screen is absolute witchcraft.  Very trick indeed.

I bet the XJ R is an absolute hoot to drive

I haven't really ventured much into having a good poke around so I'm not sure of the colour of the glovebox haha.

It's a lovely car and once these gremlins are sorted I'm sure it will be ok. Even broken down it looks good!

I've wanted the XJ for a few years so I'm glad I've finally got the opportunity. Just need it to work!!

All being well I'll have it back tomorrow afternoon so I can finally start enjoying it.

Did you check the MOT history before you bought it?

It's showing as having 171k in July 2017 and then 104k in November 2017.

Edit: It also shows 101k on the 6th July 2017. Hopefully that means the 171k is a mistake! Not sure if they can be rectified, but on a HPI check I'd expect it to show up as a mileage discrepancy.

Yeah I picked up on that too. Was an input error.

Picking her up shortly!!!!

She's back and oh my goodness!

Pictures will be taken tomorrow morning.

The specialist that did the work has done a great job and even washed her for me. Hopefully now I can start enjoying the car to its full potential.

What year is it and what mileage you sitting on?

If it cheers you up at all, offside inlet manifold on a tdv6 is made of chocolate, seriously common for doing it. Would’ve been on the to do list in due course IMO if you hadn’t already had it done like you have, delightful job...
