Price increase and disappointed

Featured Replies

As you probably are aware Superb prices increased by a flat £615 on all variants on Jan 3 2018. So a fair whack percentage wise on a base S spec, although not so much on a top of the range L&K.

In a similar move VW put up the prices on their equivalent Passat around Dec 23 by a similar amount (£550 iirc on a SE tech).

However...the Passat received free upgrades to all trims worth up to £1995, eg upgraded infotainment, Led headlights, heated front seat, tri zone cc, colour mfc etc

Skoda on the other gave nothing in return afaik.

Disappointed.

Disappointing, yes, but may be not altogether surprising.

I’m not sure the Passat’s been selling that brilliantly compared to other VWs and the kit tweak may be an attempt to buttress its value.

The Superb, on the other hand, falls into the ‘lot of metal for the money’ category and is also hampered by its position in the VW family - it’s effectively a better value Passat, and there have been grumbles within VW that Skoda is getting too close to the mother brand for comfort. So, prices up, same kit.

It’s also possible that Skoda might upgrade the Superb’s kit later in the year but not increase the price. Is a facelift due this year?

Probably, but not much comfort for me, having just ordered one.

What OP described Is expected in each new year.

We made purchase in Nov 17 due to very probable factors:

A. new year = new prices (this would apply not only cars)

B. VED increase for in 2018

Audi also i believe increased prices

I’m in the same boat, but ordered late December to beat a price rise I’d heard was coming. Still got to spec extras, though so will probably get spanked on that.

Moral of the story might be buy / lease a VW if you want a bargain as they are getting desperate to stop loosing First Registrations and shift models.

They are a high volume car seller in the UK compared to Skoda that manage to still sell / lease cars even if not the same value for money or 'much cheapness' that they once were.

Too late! I did happen to ask my dealer about deadlines for spec changes on my already ordered car on Jan 2. After checking the ordering system he said by close of that business day, because the price is going up across the board by £615 tomorrow. As a result, any changes after 3rd Jan would incur the additional £615 charge on top.

Floormats it is, then...

Factory fit would cost £700 (£85 plus £615) !

Xman....dealer gave me an update yesterday on the build week for my car and I took the plunge and asked if I could still spec an electric tailgate release. He’s said yes, allowing me to pay for it by adding the cost to the deposit. Phew...

MorrisOx. There’s always a way when buying a car.   Well done!
