I am trying to sort out which engine oil should be used for the next oil and filter change. My car is a 2013 Fabia estate TSI( 85) and I will be having it serviced by my great local independent from now on. I had a huge dispute with my local Skoda dealer, Mitchells near Chester and will not be going near them again. Another main dealer I contacted suggested 5w/30 but Castrol have suggested 0W/30. I am happy with either Castrol Edge long life or Total quartz Ineo long life. Both are fully synthetic and both meet VW spec 504 00. It is simply the viscosity which is an issue. I do between 5000 and 6000 miles a year max and my Fabia has always been  on fixed servicing. I would say 60% of my mileage is local stuff, the rest is longer runs using motorways and A roads for journeys up to 200 miles.  What do people think?

Please can you give your posts a different title.  there are 4 or 5 hetty 1.  ?

Can i recommend 5w 40 Full Synthetic VW502 00 and Fixed Servicing.

Skoda VW recommend 5w 30 FS LL VW504 00 for Fixed and Variable Servicing,

but then there are so many TSI issues they ignore.

Love your car, treat the engine well, use 5w 40 FS and let it live long and prosper.

Let the power be with you.   That is not being cheap, just realistic.     VW do not care for you one little bit.

PS

Your car does not need 0w 30 FS LL in the UK, and not because some now recommend it and dealerships have it in bulk.

Let them put it in new engines for fleet users, or let the Factory start filling with that.

Some 1.5 TSI EVO are seemingly now getting VW508 00.  Lets see what Dealerships say about that.

I asked about genuine vw508 oil at my dealer parts dept. - £138 (one hundred and thirty eight pounds) for 5 litres - ouch!! He did agree it sounded expensive and offered me 10% off!  (Or was it 15%??)

^^^ Nobody is doing fake VW508 00 yet are they?

Was that CASTROL VW508 00 they were quoting the price for?   Looking forward to how this little 'earner' for Main Dealerships pans out.

2 options, either Castrol Edge professional longlife iv fe, in 1 litre bottles (what their service dept uses apparently) at around £22 per litre iirc. Or genuine VAG 5 litre can at ridiculous price. Fortunately theres a factory sticker in my engine compartment that says simply vw504/507 so its not getting any 508.
