I drive manual, have done for almost 30 years.  Have tried automatics now and then but I think I'm a control freak!

Test drove the DSG Edition but I hated the way the engine cuts out at a junction and I couldn't pull away quickly.  With manual I feel I have more control and it's safer.  I'm sure there's probably a way to stop the engine from going to sleep when necessary with the DSG but I prefer manual and that it's cheaper.

We have three manuals at the moment and with proper hand brakes! I have had a DSG in the past, a Passat, really liked it and when in Manual mode you can still control it, so the best of both worlds. And as the DSG is basically a manual behind the electronic gubbins it's as economical or more so (in my experience) as a manual. The extra cost is a minus though.

My concern with going for a DSG (which I fancy again) Karoq, is my wife, as she wasn't over keen with driving my Passat or the electronic handbrake. But when we do change, her car will be going and I'm sure she will get used to a DSG and electronic hand/parking brakes work better with them anyway.

As regards the stop/start hopefully there is an on/off button, like in the Yeti, as I like to decide (mostly off!) when it operates and turning it off is part of my starting procedure.

I've been driving manuals for over 40 years and love 'em but the DSG is a great piece of kit. We shall see.

DSG and electronic handbrake are a breeze, absolutely nothing to do, stop and go, no roll back.

I've been using dsg for two years now and will never go back to manual.

Yes I know, but when my wife drove mine I had to keep moving her hand off the "gear stick" and telling her to keep her left foot planted on the floor.

It doesn't come as easily to those who have no interest in how cars etc. work and have only ever driven manuals. She's a good driver but would only drive it if I was in the car and I'd be a nervous wreck if I wasn't!

Oh I see.

I'm lucky as my Mrs flips between her manual juke and my dsg golf , luckily she adapts well but does prefer auto hence she's gone for a dsg karoq which suits me as I hate driving her manual juke.

Just what you get used to and prefer I guess....

Yes, it's not such a problem when you are driving both on a regular basis. Can't remember what it was now but not having driven my wife's Mini for sometime I forgot or almost did something I shouldn't do when starting it or going into gear, maybe not using the clutch!

The worst was when my Dad had his first (and only!) auto., a Triumph 2500 estate. He dropped me off at school and a few yards down the road he locked the wheels up. He'd obviously forgotten he was driving an auto and pushed the lever into reverse or something!

I know it's very difficult (impossible?) to do now, the lever having a button, but hence why I was nervous when my wife had her hand on the lever!

If we do go for DSG I'll have to keep her away from the manual TT!
