Coolant leak

Featured Replies

Cack!! Was only praising the Skoda on the weekend to the wife, only to have the 'low coolant' light come on this morning while on my way to work. Pulled up on a garage fore court, popped the bonnet and the coolant bottle was empty. Looked under neath and a small puddle of bright reddish fluid. Called the AA who reckoned it's a coolant leak from the rad or associated hoses rather than the head etc. Got recovered to my local garage. Got a hire car for a couple of days free via the AA. Hope it's all ok can't afford too much in the way of repair bills.

@TripleMcB - Yes; balance of probabilities says it's either a hose or one of the end tank to core joints on the radiator.

Fingers crossed. Should find out tomorrow.

If they can't find it , take a good look at the heater hose / bulkhead o rings.

Mine were rock hard on my first vrs and not that easy to find.

Cheers puddy

Have a look at the bottom corners of the radiator (behind the A/C evaporator). I had to remove the undertray and have a good look with the torch. Mine was leaking slowly. I got it replaced before it leaked badly. 70k 9-10 years old.

Apparently the radiators are plastic interior with a metal surround nowadays. Reconditioning is a thing of the past.

Spot on. Bottom corner of the rad where the hose fitting is had a tiny pin hole leak, enough to loose the water when driving as when warm the hole expanded.  My garage had pressure tested the system and the left it over night on the pressure rig. Sure enough wet floor. New rad fitted and the AC checked over and re gassed. All in £290  can't complain. Saved me a lot of messing about. Pick her up tomorrow.  :)

All good so far with no issues. Glad she's back as the brand new forward I had as white car was bloody awful. I would not pay £13 plus grand for one.

What was your hire car (it's not clear from your post)?

Damn auto correct.

I had a brand new model corsa SRI. A 5 door. Sure it had automatic wipers, lights a DAB stereo, auto dimming interior mirror and a red light in the interior when it was dark (why, who knows?). But the seats felt like I'd filled me pants, and seemed a little short in the thigh area, the ride was unnecessarily harsh, the road noise above 30mph was so loud it became uncomfortable but that may have been due the 17" low profile tyres and rims. No foot rest by the clutch. The glare off the touch screen was dangerous and stopped the screen working in sun light. And I put two gallons in it (petrol) it had two in already, the trip said I could do 281 miles but after 96 the gauge was in the red and the trip was blinking for an urgent fill up.

And  just to annoy me the drinks holder in the centre console was too small for my thermos cup but too big for a bottle of water and the two in the front if used meant you'd hit your fingers when changing gear and blocked the heater control.

Glad to be back in pingu today. On the m5 at 70, kraftwerk Cd on 25 on the stereo, coffee in hand brilliant.

And i thought the fabia had no decent cupholders! Was it one which had that button which makes the steering really light for parking as well?

Interesting stuff

Christ yes.  The steering was vague at best with out the 'city' mode on. In all for a freebie it did the job and got me out of a hole (thanks AA) but my MK1 fabby just feels better even at 16 yrs old.
