Karoq

Trouble is I think you have already found your ideal car i.e.  large estate. Well, apart from your wife not liking it.

I've had Passats and an A6 and you can't beat the interior and boot space. I realised when thinking about an SUV that the boot space would be smaller but this wasn't a problem as even though I often have four in the car when we go away it's usually just the two of us and plenty of room for luggage.

As we are finding, even to get decent space inside, apart from the Karoq, we are having to look at quite large SUV's and to match a Superb quite possibly a Q7 which is eliminated on size and likely the cost. So I think you have an impossible task.

My size of car is being limited by my wife as well, particularly as she will be driving it more than the Yeti and on that basis it will probably be a Karoq - gotta sort those tables out though!

Is a roof box an option for you?

Is the Kodiak too big for your wife as that will be better than a Karoq?

Yup - Kodiak too big. After looking at all-sorts keep coming back to the Karoq. Without extra boot floor packing (different spare wheel options etc) and picking the 2wd - boot space is reasonable.

I'll wait until the model beds in and prices soften. Hopefully they will do  version without the tables!

Had my Karoq for 2 weeks, generally very pleased, but rear doors are part of real wheel arches and collect all the mud and dirt on inside edge.

Seems like poor design, anyone other than me noticed this?

So have u done anything to solve thiw problem?i am thinking to get the Karoq but this problem haw put me into thoughts!

Regular wipe down best solution. Should be better in Summer. I do live in rural area with muddy roads!

Car a success otherwise

I've also been investigating th Audi Q2 - this is different as the rear door is not part of the rear wheel arch:-

Rear seat room seems rather restricted  though

Went to our local MINI dealer yesterday to drop the wife's car off for a service and MOT. Whilst there I made the "mistake" of looking at the MINI Countryman.

Chap at work, who's also pretty tall, has the earlier model and says it is pretty roomy so should be considered. I discounted it though as a road test compared it with the Q2 which I found, as well as with the Q3, that rear legroom was insufficient with me driving (6'1") and 6 footer sons. I won't have them in the back very often once they both have left the nest but there will be occasions so need the space.

Anyway I tried it out in the back with the driving position set for me and it passed the test! Bit surprised really as it's about the same size as the Yeti (must check out the figures) and has a good boot. Have to say that the driving position was very comfortable and the seats very supportive. I'm not a big fan of the looks of some of the Minis and don't particularly like the shape of the headlamps on the Countryman but it's got to be considered now especially as they do 1.5 and 2.0 petrol engines with the latter being what I favour.

My wife, having had three Minis on the trot, was unsurprisingly very keen and I might have a battle on my hands now to go elsewhere! Particularly as I will be retiring soon and her car is going. Will still be trying out a Karoq etc. but the writing might be on the wall!

Hadn't thought of the Countryman. I've always found the legroom of Mini's hopeless in the past especially as I'm 6ft 4" and my son is now 6ft 5" (Hopefully leaving the nest soon!)

In parallel to this I've been investigating car seats and read an article that the Countryman has a very comfortable seats. Basically I'm struggling with a lot of newer cars that seem to have highly bolstered seats (similar to bucket seats of old) - Being 6ft 4" with an ample frame is not compatible with this as the seat bolsters seem to dead-leg me on a long journey. Bring back my old Saab 9000!

do you think mud flaps would solve this ?

Sounds very similar to the Yeti, lots of muck between the door arch and the rubber seal, and no, mud flaps do nothing for this lack of design.

M

Was the yeti not the same rear door design and also I’m sure land rover do it with the Freelander.

And the Jaguar E Pace and F Pace. Quite a few cars are designed this way
