Small damp patch in driver's footwell

Featured Replies

Hello again everyone. After the fun and games of sealing the driver's side rear door inner section with Plumbers Gold last summer (great guide on here) due to a large amount of water getting in, it seems that the same might be happening in the front section of carpet in my Mk1 Fabia estate, underneath my floor mat (bottom LHS of the floor - only about an egg cup worth every morning)

I have taken off the bottom of the door card, to see if the carrier is 'weeping' but there doesn't seem to be any water around it. Could it still be the seal has gone?

The 'gulley' that's under the wipers at the front of the car, seems to have a lot of leaves in it. How do you get into there to clean it all out? (Could this cause the leak?)

And I also have a factory-fitted electric sunroof - can these get blocked up? What about drainage holes in the front doors? What best to clean them out with?

Many, many thanks in advance :)

All four carriers need the sealing treatment because they all can leak.

It's possible to remove the scuttle trim to clear the plenum out but it's a pain to do - wiper arms off etc. If you take it off you will most likely need 3 new 'fir tree' clips...

Drain holes in the doors can be poked with a thin screwdriver or similar.

Thanks, Lee. If it's not one thing, it's another with these little cars, eh? ;)

EDIT: I've broken the little red reflector in the door - are they hard to get hold of? (6y0 947 419)

Just a little update. After gunning the bottom of the door carrier on the driver's side with Plumbers Gold, the dampness in the footwell seems to have dissipated (Touches wood) I've also managed to glue the reflector back together. Many thanks for all the help - it's nice to have less smelly/drier interior!

EDIT: Here's the glue I used to fix the reflector - bloomin' brilliant stuff.
