Looked at the Karoq today, an EDITION model

Featured Replies

If your Karoq arrives on the totally rubish Bridgstone Duellers, or what ever 'all season tyre',

nip down to your Michelin supplier and compare the tyres side by side

and see the difference compared to what ever size CrossClimate+.

All I'm interested in it's what's written on the tyre wall. 225/45 R18 is a non standard tyre size for a 1.5TSI Karoq. It is not approved by Skoda, end of story!

There you go then, stick to what is approved by Skoda.  Not what VW Group has approved @ Type Approval,

other vehicles, tyre / wheel combinations, sizes. TuV approved.

Just wait and see what gets fitted to Emergency Vehicles from Skoda, the Karoq will get used as the Yeti did & Octavia Scout etc,

and get Tyres / wheels, and Suspension to suit the needs of Police, Ambulance, Coast Guard, Mine Rescue, Fire Brigade etc, and not what was on at Type Approval.

But I'm not interested in what gets fitted to the vehicles you mention. I'm only concerned with the tyres fitted to my own Karoq and whether the tyre size is approved by the manufacturer.

I understand,  so if you have 'The list of Approved tyre sizes' then you know what you can or not fit.

You know what car to buy or wheels to get.

?

Do you have that list of approved tyre sizes from Skoda that you could post please?

ie, The EU Certification showing the Tyre Sizes for a Karoq.

This same Type Approved tyres / wheel thing has gone on for years in the Yeti section, while plenty fit the tyres they need / want,

their Insurer insures them, the MOT Examiner passes them, and no Crash Examiner or Loss Adjuster has any issues with the Correct Load Rating and speed rating and legal tread.

Just returned from a test drive in a Karoq Edition 2.0 Tdi 4x4 DSG. The dealer just handed over the keys and said “Enjoy!”. I had a good hour driving around a wide variety of road types. It was very cold, very wet and at times snowing.I was very impressed with the build quality and the equipment levels. There was no problem at all with the 19” wheels in the many potholes I encountered.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I currently drive a Superb mkIII L&K I would probably have put an order in right then and there but there’s the rub, the Karoq is nowhere near as comfortable and luxurious as the Superb. No doubt many of you will say I was mad to think it would be.

I have been very satisfied with my (manual) Superb for the last 2 years but I’m getting long-in-the-tooth now and due to retire early next year. I want a reliable car with a DSG and all the gadgets I’ve come to rely on in the Superb. The reasons for looking at the Karoq was 1) it’s a bit smaller than the Superb ( what car isn’t ;o) and 2) it has the 1.5Tsi petrol engine in the top spec model.

I only do about 6000 miles a year so having another diesel seems a bit pointless, especially with all of the furore over them at the moment, who knows where that’s going! However the L&K can only be specced up with either a 220ps or 280ps petrol engine and they are too powerful and too thirsty for me.

The 1.4Tsi would be ideal but to get that I would have to have a lower spec model and then add all the extras which makes it too expensive. Maybe I’ll stick with a diesel after all...

Anyway, any of you out there thinking of buying a Karoq but haven’t seen or driven one yet then go out and do it as it is a very impressive car, it’s just not “Superb”!

I'm another that the SE L v Edition specs. don't work for.

Would definitely go for an Edition if it came without the pano. roof. Why do those idiots at Skoda UK keep thinking that they know more than potential customers? As well as the sun-roof in the Edition it's rear tables in all models. If folks want them let them have them as extras.

Made me laugh when reading  the Auto Express report was that Kirsten Staag/Stagg (AE can't decide on which!) Skoda UK Head of Marketing said that the highlight for her was the umbrella in the door (doesn't she know that e.g. Passats had these years ago!) and that she is a frequent user of the ice-scraper behind the fuel filler flap! Wow, she's easily impressed isn't she and if that's the best features of the Karoq she can come up with!

By the way AE, the Yeti had the LED removable boot light, so that's nothing new.

Most of the rest of the report was the designers talking the usual bullsh*t about design language etc.

I am ambivalent about the glass panel roof, up here there is no reason for it, and as it comes as standard the only way around it might be to buy a lower car and spec it up- could end up being more costly.

M

From what I could tell from the specs of the different models and the Configurater  there are less options to "spec up" a model than all previous models.

You pick what you need and go with it.

I came to same conclusion, SE-L plus options doesn’t make sense vs Edition price

But UK roads too rutted for 19 inch wheels (actually I don’t care about overall wheel size, but no way anything under 55 aspect tyres)

I am also out (as they say on Dragons Den)

In a couple of months my Octy will be coming to the end of the 3 year 0% PCP deal with its 3 services, Infotainment, Bluetooth, ACC, Park Assist, folding mirrors, tinted glass, VBF etc etc. Thought about Karoq 4x4 as a potential replacement so took a Karoq brochure home to browse. Found very little real info, lots of pics but no details as you would normally get , engine specs performance, weights and so on. Only contact your dealer......... dead helpful as they 'Know Nothing'

Popped online and played with the configurator,  No Petrol 4x4, shame, maybe later...... Chose SE L and got totally confused with the options, in particular the Infotainment bit, seems what I have standard and included in the Octy is a future cost option in the Karoq. Thought I'd like the plastic wheel arch protectors being practical, seems only available if I add £500 worth of 19" wheels. Err, no thanks. Heated screen is a useful option but I would have to add Electric memory seats at about £400 (forget now, anyway expensive) More of 'you can only have that if you add this' which is a real deal breaker for me. Memory seats I can do without, if it's got a lever that will do. In a previous BMW that had memory seats there were two buttons 1 & 2, I used 1 and the wife used, you guessed it, 2. Didn't matter which key we used. I need to clear the screen of ice not my ar*e!

Popped the boot in the showroom and thought does it have a raise sensor if the carpark roof is lower than the total height of the boot raised? Didn't seem so but could be wrong.

Maybe I need to spend some more time reading, but on first impressions I think I'd be far better off keeping the Octy, 3 years old with 12,500 on clock, all the bits I need, £30 a year tax, comfy enough, only a 140 but will wheel spin in the dry, got a pedal box fitted and could add the tuning box if I want.  Now how many cruises can you get for £20k.....

I think this is what you are referring to, albeit dated 06 November 2017, extract with regard to the Karoq. Doubtless it will be updated as more engine variants are tested.

I must need my eyesight tested, but I can't even see the tyre size you're referring to being listed in the Accessory Catalogue at all!

No sorry it is my Typo.

It is the 225/60 R 16 i meant,  next to the 215/60 R 16/

Look under engine code DFFA, ie a 2.0 Tdi 110PS

Perfect,

i am getting a loan of a Karoq in a couple of weeks and i have a set of Continental TS850 225/60 R 16's on wheels.

They will go on and i can carry 2 spares that are on the car.

Even better, in the Karoq the umbrella isn't in the door at all, but under the passenger seat!

Brilliant!

No wonder she had nothing else to say about the design of the car! Simply Dumb!

I've come with the answer to my problem in regard to the fact that there are no all season tyres available by any manufacturer in the 215/50 R18 size. I can simply fit 225/50 R18 tyres instead. They are a Skoda approved fit for the 7J 18" wheels! They are actually fitted as standard on the diesel 4x4 Karoq!! They have a 1.5% increase in tyre dia over the 215/50 R18. Which is acceptable to me because the diameter is slightly bigger and not smaller like the 225/45 combo you mentioned. Don't get me wrong the choice of all season tyres is limited in 225/50 R18 and there are no Cross Climates in that size but I've got my eye on a set of  Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season ROF 225/50 R18 95V at the moment.

One of the problem with diesels is that quite a few people bypass the DPF which causes all of the pollutants to be released.  Thankfully the Government have now added a requirement to MOTs from May 2018 to check the DPF hasn't been tampered with.  I have had two diesels in the past few years - an original Qashqai that didn't have a DPF from the factory and an XC90 that was great and more efficient than the petrol version. The Qashqai was great but we needed something bigger hence the XC90 but the issue I had was that most of our driving is town based and the DPF clogs up if not taken on a good long run down the motorway at least once per month.  So diesels are no longer an option for me.

Happy with my test drive of the Edition though, I thought it was seriously smooth on British roads compared to what I've had before.  Slightly harder in the rear than the front but I don't have any concerns with the 19".  Going to get some 17" anthracite wheels and winter tyres next Autumn.

Another thing that is b*gger all use  in the Karoq up here, only visitors use them, and that's at the risk of landing in Stornoway

According to the brochure, the tyre size is 235/40 R19, at least on the Edition they are.

Yes I know that but I'll be getting a SE L which are shod with 215/50 R18 tyres on the petrol models.
