Change from yeti to yeti

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am looking for a replacement for my 2011 Greenline 1.6TDI. Now i have found a Yeti Monte Carlo 2016 1.4tsi 125bhp with a DSG7 gearbox with 71300km on it. I have heard a lot of problems on the dsg gearbox but are the problems resolved now? The biggest problem with the DSG is the model with dry-clutch? And what i can understand there is a dry-clutch in just this modell of Yeti? I Have tried searching but the only thing i can really find is really old threads on problem from 2010-2015, and i know that in the beginning the problems where big...

And the second question is there any know problems with the panoramic sunroof?? Leaks or any mechanical problems?

Happy for any answers from a more than usually confused Swede

All petrol Yetis with DSG have dry clutches and 7-speed boxes;  the diesels have wet clutches and 6-speed boxes.  There was a recall on early DSGs to replace the original synthetic oil with mineral oil...later boxes received the mineral oil on assembly.  Given the complexity of the DSG system  (clutches, mechatronic units and gearboxes themselves it is not surprising that some have given trouble...but I wouldn't say they were particularly unreliable,  in fact they are surprisingly reliable all things considered.  I had a problem with the (dry) clutch pack on mine, which was replaced under warranty... but it was only a problem of noisy operation..it worked perfectly well otherwise,  and now with 20,000 miles on the clock I've had no further trouble.

The issues with the DQ200 DSG 7 speed twin fry clutch DSG should all be resolved from 2013 after the World Wide Recall and European Service Campaign '34 F7',

Mineral Oil used and a Software update.

But sadly it is not all over for some DQ200 from some factories 2013-2015.

There is Service Campaign '34H5' a software update.

So from 2015-2017 all should be good.

Sadly not for some in Continental Europe with Mk3 Fabia 1.2 TSI that have DQ200 issues as reported in the Fabia Mk3 section of Briskoda.

Hopefully, 1.4 TSI with a DSG from 2016 are trouble free, only time will tell.

Thank you for all the answers. The only problem now is to get the dealer to answer my emails.

Looks like the panoramic sunroof is no problem then?

Re: Panoramic Sunroof.  Yes, they can be problematic. My 2015 Yeti developed a leak into the drivers footwell. This was usually when parked downhill. Initially I thought it was a blocked drain hole but water flowed freely when I tested it. It turned out to be a cracked sunroof cassette and the whole thing apart from the glass was replaced - thankfully with 2 months to spare on the warranty...

Sunroofs, I have 2 leak due to the drain holes getting blocked by fine debris.

I use a thick wire (2mm) from the top holes to ensure that the drain holes are clean.

Also the rubber trim gets a bit hard so use a rubber restored (Gummi something) to keep it supple

I too changed from a 170 TDI to a 1.4TSi petrol but with manual gearbox

In over 50 years of motoring I have had many cars with and without sun roofs. Almost without exception sun roofs eventually leak! They are generally okay for the first few years of ownership but inevitably as seals age and the mechanism wears they start to leak. Generally only a little at first and the first thing you experience is a musty smell as soft trim gets wet and mouldy.

I would never buy a used car with a sunroof - basically a car with a big hole in the roof covered by a sliding piece of glass or metal with leakage paths all around! If you want a sunroof buy a new car with one and get rid of it before the warranty runs out - otherwise you are in for a whole lot of trouble and hassle.

Don't do it!

The later (2014+) Yetii have an updated sunroof assembly which has pretty much solved the leaking issues.

However creaking noises are commonplace with these roofs - they can be fixed but it requires a complete rebuild of the roof - takes about 2 days.

Fine if you have a warranty. Costly if not.

Exactly my point, fine if it is a new car in warranty, expensive pain if not.
