Sound proofing

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

loving the new yeti (new to me) 1 question?

has anyone experimented with soundproofing yet? It’s lovely at low speeds however I have noticed road noise above 60 is rather loud in the rear? I noticed some have soundproofed doors when changing speakers etc just wondering if it’s worth doing under rear bench and boot floor with some dynamat type material and if it’s been done did it make much of a difference? Having had an Octy I knew soundproofing or lack there of was inherent but if only just to make a great car that bit greater maybe it’s worth the few quid it costs to do it?

The best sound-proofing I have found is the radio .

A few years ago, I put some soundproofing in a Fabia I had at the time.  Made no difference at all other than making the car heavier.

That’s my current way :D

Off topic perhaps, but the underbonnet soundproofing standard on diesel cars is not fitted on petrol versions, or wasn't on earlier cars. Can easily be retrofitted.

Would be difficult to soundproof rear floor as could get in the way off the removable seats underfloor storage box etc?

A lot of the noise will be coming in through the wheel arches and sides anyway.

As above if you can hear the road noise the radio isn't loud enough!

I had the Yeti treated with Noxudol when it was new, and was in for the complete Mercasol antirust treatment.
It takes away some of the road noise.

I fitted noise killer pads (bought off ebay) under the rear seat, on the boot floor and on the rear wheel arches. It has reduced the road noise, though maybe not quite as much as I was hoping for. The pads are only about 3 mm thick so don't cause a problem with seats or the storage boxes etc.

Re: my previous post, I just looked up the actual sheets I bought and in fact they are called 'Silent Coat' sheets and they are only 2mm thick.....
