FABIA BRAKE DISCS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and Gals, my mechanic (otherwise known as my boyfriend) has asked me to ask a few question about my 2003 FABIA COMFORT 1.9 DIESEL. He wants reassurance about the size of the front brake discs for the 1.9 DIESEL model (not turbo) so any help gratefully received. In addition, he's watched a very good YouTube video on how to replace them but is a little confused about the 'screwdriver bits required. For taking the actual disc off it says use a TORX T30. He knows what that is but when it comes to the brake caliper it just says use an END BIT No 7. Is that an Allen Key or something else? Just love to hear from someone with this information. It looks quite easy in the video but information on any snags we (he lol) may encounter would also be appreciated. Many thanks.

Well, it's no actual help, but your BF is not the only one who's never heard of an "end bit no7".

7mm Allen key.

I think the discs will be 256mm.

I concur. Be prepared to drill off the head of the screw that holds the disc on. It doesn't matter if you can't get it out as the wheel bolts will hold the disc on , you can put a load of washers over a wheel bolt to hold it while putting the caliper on but after the wheel is put on it will stick to the hub anyway.

Also @flygirl757 That I have heard of.

Also 256mm discs seems likely since that's the standard front disc size for the Octavia and VW Golf SDi. (same engine heavier cars)

Sounds like the way our "chums" from across the pond would identify a 7mm, but they would not have done a youtube video of working on a Fabia, and Allen is probably, without looking too deeply, an American company, strange.

Edit:- seems like I was correct there according to Wikipedia, though it shows "Allen" as being a British trademark?

BTW, some aftermarket discs has non-torx screw for disc fixing to hub. So, prepare big “+” screwdriver also :-) Fresh example from my Furby- Delphi discs.
