Thats very similar to unit i brought,

You can login to factory settings to swap toors to other side, try 3368 as the login code.

BT should just work, no dongle needed as its built in,

CD changer in boot wont work,

So far i have no battery drain issues.

  • I think the only OEM options are the Amundsen+ (RNS-315) and the Columbus (RNS-510). Only some variants come with DAB so make sure there is a black fakra connector on the rear.   There is al

  • RCD-310 and RCD-510 are both VW head units, I didn't mention them as they aren't Skoda head units.   They should work but be aware that: - they will have red illumination for their butt

  • Dont forget you will need the radio code if you go for a second hand oem unit,   There are pleny of after market options to look at which give far more functionality,  see link below,

How do you find the factory settings?

Settings then factory settings

Settings then factory settings

Thanks, I've swapped the doors over.

Any idea on any of the other stuff?

So I decided to bite the bullet and went for this: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F112793394164

First impressions are good, fits well,  the navigation and DAB are excellent, but there are a few odd things:

1. The door open display shows the opposite door as being open, so when the driver's door is open, it shows the passenger door open, and vice versa. The rear doors are fine however.

2. No beeping when reversing. I don't have a camera, but there is a sensor.

Mine beeb, do you have factory reverse sensors?

3. Can't pair any Bluetooth device, nothing shows up on the head unit or device. Do I need a Bluetooth dongle?

BT is built in, make sure its turned in on the head unit.

4. The boot CD changer doesn't work, doesn't appear as an input and doesn't seem to be powered as I can't eject any discs.

Boot cd changer wont work,

5. No steering wheel integration, but that's no biggie.

Don't have steering wheel buttons myself, but I think there is an app so you can program them.

6. No FM radio, but only because I've broken the connector off the end of cable, d'oh!

Get the soldering iron out!

I'm guessing some of these are down to the canbus and my lack of connections; I only had the big black loom connector and the aerial, so there is nothing to connect all the new connectors that came with the head unit to.

I'm also a bit wary of the battery drain issue, but I guess that's a case of 'wait and see'.

I'm guessing you broke the aerial (fakra) connector as it hit the back of the cage, you have to rotate it 180 degrees to clear the back I found this out after nearly breaking mine.

You can set steering wheel controls in the 3368 setting, also boot up logo and other stuff.

Same unit as I bought last year but mine is Android 6, been fine so far.

Bluetooth, go into the phone menu and there is a BT icon there, it should search for BT but make sure your phone is discoverable, once paired it you can scan it and it will add your contacts.

Thanks guys.

2. It did used to beep, and yes there is a factory reverse sensor. I'm wondering if there is a mute/volume setting for it somewhere?

3. I've looked at the BT settings, I'm pretty sure they are turned on and that my phone is discoverable, but I will revisit it.

I notice in the factory settings that you can select different bluetooth chips(?), so I was wondering if this is something to look at?

4. I didn't think the boot CD changer would work, which is no problem, but I'm surprised that it doesn't seem to power on and allow me to eject the discs.

5. I had a look at the steering wheel settings in the factory menu (and changed the boot logo!), but as I said, I don't have a problem with them not working.

6. Yes, I snapped the fakra connector as I put the unit back in, it seemed to be pointing the wrong way, as in out and I didn't anticipate it being a problem!

Also, I've installed Google Offline maps, which runs up fine, but the first thing it says is that I need an internet connection. I can hotspot it to my phone to get round this, but will this be every time?

Yes that was the problem with the Fakra, at least you know now.

Google offline maps you will have to download first the map you want, so you will need a net connection to do that first but then it will run off GPS.

Okay, so the reversing sensor is working, so that's a bonus.

Can anyone please tell me what is the BT setting under Factory Settings? I want to make sure that I have the right one configured.

It would have been set correctly at the factory for the type of bt chip fitted, if you changed it then change it back to what was before,  the factory settings are protected with a pass code for a reason, bugger about with them at your peril.

I know, just interested.

So, the Bluetooth is working now, I couldn't see my phone from the HU, but I found the HU on my phone, so it's all paired now.

Where do people tend to mount the external microphone?

The only thing to do now is to fit the mic/DAB aerial/GPS and put the dash back together. Oh, and fix the aerial connector!

My mic is mounted at the top of the drivers A pillar, would have preferred near the mirror bur the cable is to short for that

How hard is it to get the wire through the dash?

I'm having a nightmare getting the glovebox out for the DAB aerial cable.

Glove box should be easy to remove, think it's 5 or 6 screws, 1 is hidden by the cover in the near side door shut,

To route the mic cable I removed the trim to the right in the following order,

Light switch,

Trim piece, by light switch and same to left of steering wheel, that gives access to the screws so you can remove the 2 large trim pannels,

Trim on A pillar comes off with a good tug,

Thanks, got the DAB aerial, USB cable and GPS nicely fitted behind the glovebox, I'll look at the microphone over the next few days.

Anyone recommend a good DAB app, or worked out how to add new stations to the current one? I don't seem to have BBC Radio 5 Live, just BBC Radio 5 Live Extra.

Also, is there a thread about alternative launchers?

Get a better aerial, I used the screen mount supplied for a couple of weeks before changing it to an external glass mounted on,

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_DEGA-4001_glass_mount_DAB_car_aerial.html

The telescopic bit is a bit crap and you can no longer get it with a solid whip so I made my own, reception is very good with very few drop outs, haven't looked in to a different app but it wild be nice to have a favourite button.

So do you think the app auto detects stations and there's no Radio 5 because it can't find it?

No, you need to scan for them,

Ok, so how do I change the dash clock?

I used to do it via the old head unit.

  • 9 months later...

Hi all,

I have just got a second hand RCD 510 DAB to upgrade my Bolero (2009 mkII FL). I understand that I need a need centre console trim as the Bolero is wider at the top and that this is the same trim as that used for the standard fit Columbus. I have spoken to my local dealer and he was pretty clueless tbh. Does anyone know the part number for this trim item please? I have an L&K so if the gloss black version was ever made that's what I would like as it matches the current fitting. However, anything would be an improvement on the nothing I currently have!

Any and all help gratefully received...

Yes should work, the coding is a 5 minute job for someone with vcds, just note down the installed modules on existing gateway, swap it over and tick the boxes for the installed modules on the new one.

Thanks.
