Does the Octy 2 have heated washer jets?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My wife reported this morning that the washer jets were not working.  Presumably frozen because of the cold weather we are currently experiencing.

I have an Elegance model with a lot of gadgets like heated seats and heated mirrors.  I was a bit surprised it doesn't appear to have heated jets.

Was this an extra option?

How can I tell if I have heated jets or not?

Is there a special way to activate them?  E.g. does the heated mirrors need to be on?

Thanks!

Have a look at the underside of the jets, if they only have a water pipe, they aren't heated :)

It's possible to retrofit them as @Eddie-NL has done.

Enter your VIN for a complete list of your chassis options which can be verified in your owner's handbook and on the sticker on the boot floor under the carpet.

Ok thanks guys, will check that out when I and the car is back at home.

If it does have heated jets, how are they activated?

Not sure, at a guess it'll be down to external temperature.

On a pre-facelift car it will be directly wired to a switched live

On the facelift it is wired to the BCM, it will only be active when the engine is running and the temperature is low enough

Thanks  :)

My mk2 was pre fl Elegance and didn’t have heated washers. My yeti is elegance to with heated seats and mirrors but no heated washers :( I believe it was an optional extra on elegance models and not part of standard trim level

Thanks , I'm guessing that's what I have.

I have an L&K with electric everything but no heated washers, very fustraiting in this weather.

Yep. Couldn’t even clean the screen for first 20 odd mile yesterday then passenger side defrosted but come end of journey drivers side still frozen despite my screenwash saying good to -10

Do you happen to know if the jets themselves are the same in both cases?

This came up a while ago on some model or other, and some folks were 'scared' of having them on full time via a retrofit using a switched live, instead of via BCM, thinking they might overheat/burn out prematurely.

Edit: Looks like they are the same, from 7zap research?

I've not had any issues with my unheated versions freezing up over the last few days.

I use genuine VAG screenwash which is good to -70'C when concentrated but I dilute it down for -16'C during the winter.

Might be worth putting your current screenwash in the freezer to see when it does actually freeze ;)

Just bought a new bottle of some as it was on sale at £2.50 in Tesco so will give that a try. Only reason I got it was because Prestone was recommended on here.

Funny thing is the screen wash i normally buy from halfords retail store's does not freeze, but i have some stuff we use at work (halfords auto centre, and we CAN'T use the same stuff as the retail store's) and yep it was frozen this morning.

However it's fine now as my car has sat in motoline dartford's workshop most of the day having the main water pump done, thats just cost the warranty company a staggering £598

My mk2 Octy VRS FL is experiencing frozen screenwash. I can hear the motor work but no spray. I have been using Triple QX screenwash which apparently doesn't freeze until -7c the worst we have seen is -6c here so far. However the last time I put it in I diluted it 50% as it was mildly cold at the time so at the minute I guess it is only going to not freeze at 3.5c.

In future I will use screenwash undiluted I think. Or I will buy -20c screenwash and dilute that 50%!

Completely agree never had frozen washer in any of our cars with the vag stuff. The washers on my daughters polo were fine this morning at nearly -7

Apart from at dealerships is the VAG stuff available anywhere else and what is the dilution method of it? To cover up to -10c for example.

Part number is G052164M2, I tend to buy it in boxes of 10l from ebay or dealers depending what's cheaper.

Instructions are included on the label for dilution:

- unmixed screenwash -70'C

- screenwash 2:1 water - good for -40'C

- screenwash 1:1 water - good for -35'C

- screenwash 1:2 water - good for -16'C

- screenwash 1:4 water - good for summer (no temperature mentioned)

I tend to mix it between 1:2 and 1:3 during the winter.

Thank you,

I will look at getting this. I think I will go with 1:2.5/1.3 as it only goes to -6c at worst here.

So say a 5 litre screenwash tank would need 1.25 litres of VAG screenwash at a cost of roughly £5. Definitely more than I usually spend but it's not bank breaking!

Look elsewhere for the good stuff (-70°C concentrate) and dilute as applicable, although I would recommend a -15°C mix for Scottish winters taking into account wind chill and freezing windscreens.

Motor factors and occasionally independent filling stations sometimes stock the 500ml/1l bottles, you could even use Eurocarparts but remember to click and collect and use the current discount code or be prepared to be robbed!

Ive been using the Halfords screen wash, rated to -10, shelf price 4.99 but using a trade card costs about 3.75 for 5 litres of preminx . Worth looking in to whether you can get a trade card, i.e. bulbs are 50% discount.

Apologies if I've took over this thread @mjgreen81 I thought it was the best place to ask!

I'm only in the West Midlands so no lower than -6c and that is rare. I do have 25% off at Halfords but is the Halfords stuff even that good? Bearing in mind I think I have the fan jet on my car too.

Really I am being wary of the fan jet/hoses blocking due to cheap, thicker screen wash.

All Octavias have fan jets,

Like i say i have been using Halfords -10 wash, its the purple one and smells if wild berrys, never had it freeze when used undiluted.

This is the one i am refering to, currently £3.38 with a trade card.

I've not had the nozzles block yet line kn my previous octavia when using random screen wash,

Thank you, I get 25% off so that seems a good price! Although I think I would buy the concentrate and mix it with water myself!
