Sport mode in dsg

Featured Replies

Hi

I have read a few posts about the sport mode, some say they leave it in sport most of the time as they like it.

I have a dsg and it's awful in sport mode, just doesn't want to change gear, so I'm I right in thinking those that like it

drive the manual version or is something not right with my auto box..

Ta

Sport on dsg holds the gear longer than normal I'd of thought.

Exactly this

Sport is for driving hard if you are not driving hard and fast then you don't need it.

Better off choosing normal or eco if you are not trying.

Just flip-flop between the modes to suit different stages of the journey, e.g. cruise in ECO for a while on motorways and dual carriageways, then click the lever back at roundabouts for a much better (quicker) getaway.

Click - go for an overtake.

Click - go for a slip road (ramp)

Click - you’re on your own on an “interesting” road.

The paddles are your friend.

Yeah, put it in Sport for the best throttle response and heavy steering, but knock into Drive by pulling back against spring pressure when you first engage the gear to keep everything else in Sport, but still have a properly set up gearbox.

Yes I don't have the paddles either, so I guess I'll just use normal and eco

i have tried the sport mode at different speeds, and it just revs to the red in each gear so think it's not for me,  maybe I'm not driving hard enough, Mmm

I've owned 7 DSG cars, wet and dry clutch, diesel and petrol. And I've driven many more.

Who ever maps the Sport mode on the gearbox wants sacking. If it was mapped as say Drive + 10% or even 20% it would be great but on some models you are pushing the redline with less than half throttle and the slightest twitch of the right foot initiates a downchange,

Sasha has the answer I use, select the Sport drive mode but put the box back in normal by pulling back on the lever,

Ok I'll try Sasha and your style, once the roads return to normal, I didn't realise you could do that.

It works in Eco too to keep the throttle response softer, but the car won’t coast.

Hmmmm. Individual is far better setting this kind of thing up, I can certainly tell you Don't have DCC

Exactly what I was going to say, use Individual with transmission set in Normal. It’s not rocket science.

Not all models have an individual transmission setting in individual just an engine setting which also changes the gearbox.

The only way to get the gearbox back into normal is to use the DSG lever

Exactly, on my car, you can set the drive mode but it ties the engine and box together. You can set the car is Sport and keep the Sport steering, Sport throttle response etc but by pulling back on the lever you get Drive in the box. If you use Individual, the Normal drive mode won’t give you the Sport throttle setting. It’s an inelegant solution, but Skoda should have separated drive mode to engine and gearbox modes IMO.
