Mobile phone cellular and date signal disappears when connected to BT

Featured Replies

Whenever my phone connects to the car via Bluetooth, my phone losses all cellular and data signal.

Sometimes I'd rather use my phone's satnav for the live traffic, but this obviously doesn't work when I have no signal.

Is this normal for a Superb? It doesn't happen in my wife's Moka.

Thanks

Spelling and grammar

The bluetooth setup in the Superb has two modes, RSAP and HFP.

Yours sounds like it's in RSAP mode: in this case, the car effectively disconnects the sim card from your phone and connects it to a GSM tranceiver in the car. All calls and texts are routed through the car's system directly. The advantage of this is better signal in areas which have patchy coverage. You also get your text messages routed to the display on the instrument panel. The downside is that (as you've found out) the handset has no connectivity; also any calls or texts received while connected to the car are not synced back to the handset on disconnection.

The other mode is HFP: here the phone connects to the bluetooth module for audio and call handling but the phone does all the work of connecting to the GSM network. This is preferable for most people since everything is routed through the phone and the phone otherwise works as normal. The option to change it is buried down in the menus on the MFD: the owner's manual has full instructions on this.

Thanks for this great response!

I was worried it was something I was going to have to live with, but it seems not, so thanks again!
