Stalling

Featured Replies

My daughters 1.4 Furby has developed a stalling issue. Scan on the engine module has thrown up faults 17519 and 17589. Pointing to a dodgy/failing pre-cat O2 sensor?

More likely to be an air leak from the brake servo vacuum hose, they split where the hose sections push on to the barbs in four different places, you can easily fix this by trimming the hose back removing the split section and then heating it before pushing it back on to the barb, check each joint in turn, if you can pull the hose off a barb then it's split and leaking.

Thank you for the input on this issue. Don't see the link between the vacuum hoses and stalling, could you elaborate?

@Aveleydave - If the vacuum hoses leak, they can introduce large and unmetered quantities of extra air to the engine.

 Okay. I'll have a look. Thanks.

Had a quick shifty under the hood and can I confirm the the pipe in question is that which has three legs, going to the base of the throttle body, the air cleaner and the brake servo?

Yes, there will be splits where the pieces of pipe attach to the various barbs.

Is it the 1.4 MPI?

I can't think why there would be a connection to the air cleaner? Ah, unless it's involved in the warm air/cold air blend system?

Edited by Wino

The air blend is only controlled by a wax capsule on the 1.4 mpi.

It is a 2005 1.4 DOHC.

Then I think the servo pipe is just servo to inlet manifold, with a non-return valve in line?

Photo of yours?

It's a white out here in Essex at the moment. If I get a chance I'll venture outside.

Got around to taking a snap.

Yes, that's all vacuum pipework, none of it can leak.

I'm still mystified by (exactly) where that unconnected leg goes and what it does.

Got a photo of where it connects to the airbox?

Does the engine run better if you block that off and run without the airbox?

I've just come back from a 12 mile round trip and not once did the car stall. Wino, the unconnected pipe goes to the side of the airbox.
