Inspection required 27 days (21 day to end of lease)

Featured Replies

So, we've terminated the lease on our Scout today (as the new Golf is arriving sooner than expected), and thus the scout has be checked over and collected (with)in 21 days by BCA.

But having done that this morning,  SWMBO came home this evening and told me that the 'Inspection due in 27 days' pinged up.

The car is on flexi-services (as all as standard i think) and 3 years old start of June, mileage is just under 18k miles and it had its first service a while back (can't recall exactly, guessing 12-16months back).

So do i get away without getting the Inspection (service) done? Or if not, what does the Inspection involve (do they actually do anything?) and how much is it likely to be from Skoda - i've had loads of services on the vRS but thats a company car so never see the invoice? I'd prefer not to get caught for end-of-lease charges.

Someone with more knowledge than me will be able to answer more accurately but...

I'd have thought if the msg says 'Inspection due in 27 days' and you terminate the lease before 27 days, then it's not your problem.

Inspection due means inspection service / interim service / minor service / 'A' service - whatever they want to call it. Fixed priced servicing means it should cost approx £185. It's basically an oil and filter change, the rest of the money made up by them checking fluid levels on your car, washing it, hovering it etc. things that you can do yourself.

Just watch tho, when the car is 3years old they may also ask you to pay for a brake fluid change. (recommended change intervals is 3yr and every 2nd year from then on). I'd defo try to get rid of it before the 3years are up. :tongueout:

PS - if the 27 days corresponds within a few days of the car's 3rd birthday, chances are you're no longer on a flexi-service regime - sounds like the system may have been changed to fixed intervals at the last service.

Thanks Scot, i think the situation is that the early termination was accepted today and the deal is the car has to be collected by BCA within 21 days.

I'll phone Skoda/VWFS tomorrow to find out but they probably won't believe that the inspection notice came up after requesting the termination!

Took BCA over two weeks to come and collect my car after VT’ing it.

I VT,d my Polo with the 2 of the tyres right on the legal limit and never had any comeback from the BCA. I am sure they have thousands of cars come into their hands that need some kind of work. I’m sure some are more serious than an inspection/service or some tyres. I shouldn’t worry about it.

I'd have thought rudimentary maths was within their capabilities. You requested termination at X, they want it by Y, as long as X-Y is positive, you're in the clear.

Thanks all for comments, so I spoke with Skoda finance today to check and as you all expected they said as long as it’s picked up by BCA prior to the service actually becoming due, then we don’t have worry about it  - hence got on to BCA to agree inspection and collection dates which are within the 21 days (and thus before the 27 days). So should all be ok.

good news is that the 45% I had to pay to end early for the final two months payments, is offset nicely by the cost that it looks like I might have avoided with the service plus the cost of an mot fee (presumably no work would have been required).

i took the original tyres off when we got the car, so just need to get these put back on and should be sorted.

Brilliant outcome. Hope you enjoy the Golf. What model have you ordered?

You can also reset the service indicator manually. There are several easy to follow guides on Youtube.

Its tempting but vwfs were ok with it, BCA will  probably note it back to vwfs but it shouldn’t hit the end if lease charges
