    She's arrived!

  • In an interesting turn of events, I now no longer have an SE L on order, but have a lovely new Scout ready to pick up on 1st Sept, so reading this thread with interest!

  • Good choice.    I have picked up our scout plate January. We test drove the kodiaq during the dealer VIP event but the demo was a 1.4tsi sel auto, it drove well but felt slightly under power

Good to see some real world figures. I presume these are actual figures and not from the MFD? If so, how do the readings compare to what the car says?

  • Author

Yeah, they're manually calculated.

I can't remember the last time I checked the cars MPG display. This is our 5th Skoda and none of them get close to real world :D

Found out over the weekend that the slot in the glovebox isn't just for the largely defunct CD, it also plays DVD's.

The kids were mesmerised, at least until we set off and their favourite film was replaced with a 'screen turned off for safety reasons' message :D

Its funny how its not acceptable to have a film on yet its perfectly fine to allow drivers to program the sat-nav and use other functions whilst driving.

Because it doesn't take 90-120 minutes to program the navigation - and you're not suppose to program it whilst driving ;)

I've seen that it says DVD underneath the disc drive, but we funnily enough don't even have any DVD's to try it out :D i find it easier to just hotspot my phone and connect the ipads so they can watch YouTube/Netflix

Does that use a lot of data?

It can, but I use data from my work phone which is on a corporate plan, so unlimited data. Otherwise you could just save the films and videos they like to the ipad, I do that for long haul flights..

Ours frequently do that too - download Netflix or iPlayer content to their iPads to watch in the car.

So I just spoke to skoda today to book in my car, the plastic door stop that comes out when you open the door didn't retract with the door when closing, so it got stuck in the door and snapped off. Obviously some issue with the mechanism. Also wanted them to check the dpf light as suggested on here. Couple of weird things, he said I could have a hire car but had to pay & £18 for it and wait till March! He then said that dependent on what they find with the dpf there may be a £90 diagnostic charge. Told him to keep his courtesy car, I'll just walk home! And there's no way in a million years I'll pay them for a diagnostic check on a car I only for in march last year

Finally got to give it a wash today...

Anyone else noticed excess condensation inside the LED puddle lights under the door mirrors?

And is it just a coincidence that there is a Car Valeting Detailers van in the background? Are you telling porkies about who cleaned it?  ;)

Maybe they were working on the serious classy fine automobile that I can see behind the shopping wagon....

Haha, good spot! Although I can assure you it's all my own work.

He's our new neighbour, no doubt he was critiquing my work from his front room :D

I might ask him if he can remove a big scratch from the bonnet thinking about it!

Mine look the same. I will mention it if I remember when it goes in for service. Otherwise I’ll worry about trying out the warranty when/if it causes an issue.

Got to give it a long overdue scrub, just in time for the heavens to open :D

In for its first service late last week. The first service of the two free services included with the PCP deal on offer at the time of signing for the car.

9,300 miles / 11 months old. Oil and oil filter, plus fixing a squeaky drivers seat @Pulman_Skoda in Durham.

It's always nice to see the video from the technician, although you don't really learn much from it. Was quite surprised to see the early onset of corrosion on the exhaust, not unusual I suppose.

Of more interest was the spilt engine oil seeping out of the engine under tray. I wonder if they remove the sump plug with the covers in situ, making access more difficult and spillage more likely? At least they do remove the sump plug rather than sucking it out of the dipstick which is a bonus.

He mentions in the video that he's taken it for a test drive, hence the oil running along the tray towards the back of the car. A quick wipe with a cloth before taking the video might have been worth the three seconds it would have taken, if for nothing else but to prevent the seed of doubt in my mind that there's now a leak :D

Great service though, booked in the week before, dropped off at 08:30am, brand new Skoda Fabia courtesy car, fixed the seat squeak (interior niggles always seem to be the worst to fix in terms of success rates in my experience) and phoned by 13:00pm to say it was ready.

I asked them not to wash it though, Pulman have an automated car wash on site, one of those with the spinning brushes. No thanks!

You certainly keep the underneath clean 😊

That's a life of school runs for you, a few kerbs is as exciting as it gets for this particular Kodiaq!

I do try and get under it with the jet wash as often as possible, not sure how much of a difference it makes though :D

Has anyone noticed that their electric windows don't respond for a period of time immediately after starting the engine?

This little gremlin has got progressively more pronounced in recent weeks.

Start engine, press button/s to lower the windows and they either drop approx 1cm at a time or refuse to budge for anywhere for up to 2 minutes...

That is very strange, I wonder if the load management can intervene on that circuit. :wondering: If it was just a general connection or wiring issue you would think it would be more sporadic rather than just after you start the car.

  • Author

I should have mentioned I also experienced the exact same issue on my 2008 Octavia Scout, although it was random enough to forget about when booking it in for a service whilst under warranty, so was never diagnosed / resolved.

It very much feels like a sleepy / slow-to-respond module rather than a wiring or physical failure.

As the windows have the intelligence to stop if they feel pressure on them, then  I reckon that this will require some form of computer to control this.  As with the infotainment system, this will take a bit of time to start up, so that will be why there is a delay.

  • Author

Yep, I'm pretty sure it'll be software related, just seems strange that for 18 months / 12,000 miles its been fine, then all of a sudden it's decided to take longer to boot-up.
