What's happening with the vRS?

Featured Replies

Can someone in the know enlighten me on what's happening with the vRS?

I see on the SUK site that you can only have a vRS from what they have "In Stock". Are they discontinuing it or are they just saying that as they have a further revision on the way?

Ta.

New revision on the way for a petrol particulate filter. New models I think are 245 or 245 with competition pack. There’s a couple of threads already.

According to the bod I spoke to on Skoda chat last week, there is no new revision due and the 230 will still be available when order books open again. Also no model with GPF.

Either he has been told to tell customers this or he just didn’t have a clue!

The blurb I’ve read, as above, says the top of the range model being 245, not the minimum so who knows.

All I do know is that this is bad timing as my PCP is ending soon and I may have to look at alternative manufacturers.

EDIT - He didn’t have a clue! That blurb mentions GPF but nothing about the minimum vRS being 245.

I really hope they up the minimum if they fit a GPF....

Shortages started with materials supply (Alcantra for seats) removed the 245 model, switch to GPF on future petrol engines has limited the 230 production.

Although, this doesn't seem to have limited the 1.5, 1.2 or 1.0 versions from what I've seen so, can only presume these aren't near any emmissions limits.

I'd imagine vRS order books will open late May for late August delivery from what has happened in previous years.

Just had another chat with Skoda...

News of the re-released vRS 245 will be announced mid May with first orders ready in early 2019.. Really bad timing for me :(

So the re-release will come with a six month plus lead time from the word go?  If that's true I think they are going to lose a lot of sales. Lets hope that's Skoda giving a worst case scenario to manage customer expectations

That being said, if I walked into a Skoda showroom today ready to order and got told that news I think my money might well go elsewhere.

Still short supply can't do any harm to residuals :)

Apparently so..

Bad news all round, esp if it has a knock on effect on Used as that looks like the way I’ll have to go - can’t see me in another make as the Octy fits the bill perfectly.

Luckily I've seen its ugly face on October 2016 and ordered pre-FL RS230, the last wagon on the last train. Some of you in UK are lucky that 245 was at least offered for some time. Here it was never offered.

Could be that GPF is an issue.

I gave up waiting and am picking up my 'pre-loved' (4 month old) 245 this week. Looks like i made the right decision lead times are going to be that long!

Dealer told me in January that due to huge demand across Europe for the 2.0Tsi engine used in so many VW Group products that the engine plant is struggling to keep up this demand, salesman told me if customer walked and wanted to place an order he did not have any idea what to say regarding delivery dates, hence all the delays we have heard from people who have ordered cars since October last year. This salesman has always been honest with me.

Dealer told me last June lead times on the VRS TSi models were unpredictable due to the (apparently) unexpected change in the diesel/petrol balance. To be honest I'm surprised VW have not been able to switch production capacity to petrol given the months since then.  They could have built a new factory by now.

I've noticed that the UK hasn't been getting all the petrol models for a number of years (Scout, 4x4 Estates etc) so maybe VW think the shift in consumer opinion away from diesel is just a blip?

VAG had an issue with 26 week lead times on 1.4 models last September. The Tiguan 1.4 was on an almost 39 week lead time - babies can arrive in less time!

Best get my order in now then. Only 2 years and 3 months left of my current lease...
