2005 fabia VRS linkage adjustment (help a dummy(

Featured Replies

As above I need help with how to do the linkage adjustment on my 05 Fabia vrs I have searched the forum and found the relevant threads but after all the different  reply’s i find myself clueless again :&

my reason for wanting to this done is:

the car engages all gears as it should ( reverse sometime take two goes on a incline)

no crunching or strange noise during changes

BUT it just doesn’t feel right going through gears kind of notchy if you will not smooth and makes you sub consciously think about your change but it all works as it should.

its more noticble when cold understandably

it doesn’t really affect the car just gives me the feeling it’s not quite as it should be

i have ordered a new dog bone mount for good measure as it’s going in to have sump replaced + oil and filter changed soon

so may aswell get it a new one on there also I have bought 3 litres of gearbox oil from tps and I am going to change that also..

then theres the linkage adjusmtent to do so im after a dummy’s how to I am attempting this on my drive probably by candle light :D

thanks in advance

There is a guide in the 'Skoda Fabia Guides' section called 'How to Adjust the Gear-Stick to Gear-Box Linkage' I followed that and it was fairly straightforward

Right I followed the how to... and surprise jobs gone fecked gear stick all loose no gears can’t find any sort of locking pin on box and now can’t drive the car

You'll have to unfeck it in daylight.

In motorsport there are four types of people, there are engineers, there are drivers, rarely there are people who can do both, but the fourth type all end up in the motor trade.

Right well after much faffing... I have all 6 gears back :)

lesson learnt dont don’t mess with a car that currently works better is the enemy of good!!

My issue was not realising the cable has fully extended upon retracting the clips.

So was this successful in a word NO

heres what I did (and not what to do)

1- removed intake pipe for more room

2- released the two linkage clips and locked them open

3- looked in vain for something that locks the selector on the gearbox (naff all anywhere what so ever I felt I looked I felt and looked again nothing there that other people have described)

4- place 5mm pin in gear stick to lock it at home (which made the stick way over to passenger side so don’t get how that’s it’s factory home position)

-5 went back to the engine bay pushed the selector down manually and held it there while I let off both clips

6- got in car realised all the gears where messed up... swore

7- put everything back to how I found it

8-give up

ill just change gearbox oil and hope that helps :D

feel free to to give me pointers on what I did wrong or what I should of done
