Tickover speed.

Featured Replies

Hi,

is there an easy way of increasing the tickover speed slightly  on a 2002 fabia 1.4 8v.

My bikes are from the 1980`s so carbs have idle adjust screws as did my Morris but these new fandangled cars look a bit complicated.

No there isn't, other than by reprogramming the ECU.

I’ve read members with highly modded MK1 vRS with SMF who have adjusted the timing to compensate for the extra shake/noise from the flywheel. Not possible on the 1.4 8v, Sep? (I don’t know this engine and I know you do, so thought I’d ask :blush

Chain driven pushrod engine means you'd need a vernier timing gear like wot the PD130 has. So no, not possible.

Whats wrong with the tick over on your fabby? My mighty 8 valver is a little rattly and rough at idle just like all the others I've been in or heard.

Same here but you get used to it.

@Bigsqueeper - As @sepulchrave implied, you can't adjust the idle speed on a modern EMS engine directly, but need to change a map parameter to do it.

What you're changing directly with a vernier cam gear is the camshaft (valve) timing relative to the crankshaft. With a Pompe Duse (but not most other diesels) this will also change the fuel timing.

With a petrol engine it might or might not change the ignition timing too, depending on whether that's taken from the crankshaft or camshaft (engine dependent).
