Gesture Control

Featured Replies

I get Evo magazine every month and reading this months long term test on their Sportline 280, they made the comment that the infotainment system has gesture control.

I wasn’t aware the Superb has that. I have a 2017 SEL Exec and I certainly don’t have it.

Anyone else?

Not tried it on music, but waving my hand near the map when the satnav is operating causes the navigation options at the bottom of the screen to appear (destinations etc). Mine is a MY17 L&K. I don't know if it has to be enabled - mine has done it since I got it.

Read the manual :) (The function is only available with Columbus - described in the manual)

I thought the SEL Exec came with Columbus?

Don’t have a clue about what’s included in the different levels in the UK. Over here Columbus is an (expensive) option on all levels.

It does come with Columbus, but I think it’s the newer MY18 9.2” unit that has gesture control:

Yes, that would explain it. The car in Evo is a 17 plate but I guess it must be a MY18.

It's a waste of time anyway. I like the normal 'proximity sensing' that VWs etc. have, but the 'wave your hand to swipe' is a gimmick that seems to work 50% of the time at best.

As the screen on the newer Columbus is capacitive it's also pretty redundant. The older resistive screens needed a proper poke to work, but the glass screen swipes just as easily as a phone so there's really no need for gestures, even if they were well implemented.

Mine is MY17 with Columbus. If what I described above is gesture control then it isn't just the MY18s that have it.

Totally agree it is a waste of time and I would not pay to have it.

My Bolero unit does what you describe too and it’s different from gesture control. Proper gesture control only appears in the 2017/05 manual onwards.

Yeah, that's the proximity detection which has been on most touchscreen VW Group cars for years.

It does work ok but I agree with the previous comments about it being next to useless.

Like many things that are offered because they can and you I'll use them once or twice.

I have the Columbus 9.2" in my MY18 car. I have disabled the gesture control which lets you swipe left-right to change radio channels, change tracks, etc. Sometimes it would think I'd swiped in front of the screen and I was only using the indicators.

I'd also much prefer the older 8" unit with physical buttons and volume control.

Where do you get this from? The manual online?
