How tough is the electric tailgate?

Featured Replies

Will it break if you repeatedly close it by pushing the door? Seems the fact that that there is a close button ain't obvious for lots of people ...

SWMBO did this a couple of times when we first had the car, but a slap on the wrist and a demonstration of how to do it properly soon stopped it!

From the manual:-

Ways to close the lid
▶ Press pressing the button B » Fig. 41.
▶ By holding the button D on the key (applies to vehicles with KESSY). The key
must be located at a maximum distance of 2 m from the lid.
▶ By pressing the handle A .
By briefly pressing the lid downwards.
▶ If the lid hits an obstacle when closing, it stops and an audible signal sounds.

Seems it's Ok to push it down!

There was a massive sign at the rear of the display car in my Skoda dealer, warning people not to close it by forcing it.  I suspect they had found this out the expensive way first.

I tried closing the boot on a Passat estate in a VW showroom once and it seems to get stuck.

I walked away, whistling nonchalantly :o

My MIL has a Merc ML350.  She probably has the least mechanical sympathy I have ever witnessed.  She's had the auto boot mechanism fixed at least twice.
