Car gets VERY cold momentarily

Featured Replies

I know this sounds really daft, I didnt believe it myself for a while....

...but, when I go around LEFT corners i get a rush of cold air into the car, obviously right now i've got all the dials set to as hot as possible, so a waft of freezing cold air is very noticeable and quite shocking.

I dont think its coming from the fans, it feels more like its blowing across me from the left door (guess i've partially answered my own question and will check the left door seals first).

Anyone got any creative ideas before I pop down to my service garage and get some funny looks.

Is The window closed? :D

A Ghost who doesn't like left hand bends? :D

yes the window is closed.

Its never been the warmest of cars, and i often have frost on the inside of the screen, me thinks its not quite sealed

I get exactly this, I have a nice warm ambient temperature, then I turn round a roundabout and it suddenly goes freezing for about 1 second, then returns back to normal

I was always under the impression someone died on that roundabout and that would explain it, but it happens on every roundabout, most strange.....

i'm glad i'm not alone on this then, i keep expecting to look in the rear view mirror and see a little girl sitting on the back seat with her head spinning around

noooo i get this too. my theory on it is there are cold pockets of air within the car and when i go around a corner they are moved onto me. just an idea but it has happened a few times noticably and it always catches me by surprise...glad we are not alone on this cause we could have looked rather silly

I get this in my CTR too, but only within the first 10 minutes if a journey. ;)

Cold pockets make most sense to me :)

I get it too - and going around long right handers can make it seem WARMER!

I can only assume its something to do with the airflow of the outside air getting in to the vent system and it affects the heater somehow and blows in cold/warn air momentarily?

It is an amusing little quirk, but one I'm glad is more common that I though. :D

I found by resettng the air mixture flap with VAG COM it sorted mine.

me too ! only happens when going round the roundabout at the bottom of my road.i think its coming from the gear stick area but i could be talking *rap.

spooky !!

Oh,is that something like the convenience ecu login thingy I had to do to get my temperature issue sorted? :)

Could it come from the cooling vent in the glovebox - have you all got it closed off?

The cooling vent only cools when the air con is on, when the heater is on its a heating vent.

I have this problem since day one with the car. At the same point every day on my way to work it happens, a quick blast down the M3, off at Hook onto the roundabout and "woooo!" really cold air for about 3 seconds then back to normal.

I tried holding my hand over the air vent when it happens and it definitely gives out cold air.

One guess is that as the car moves about during cornering, so does the coolant in the heater matrix resulting in a sudden drop in air temp.

Either that or a temporary electrical fault (poor grounding) causes the heater flap motor to momentarily go to it's cold position.

I just put up with it!
