Hello,  This will probably sound like a very silly question but I am not mechanically minded. I run a 2013 Fabia TSI (85) and I am trying to find out the correct engine oil to use. The car is on fixed servicing.  I thought it was Castrol Edge 5/30 fully synthetic but several friends in the motor trade have said that isnt the right oil any longer. Total has been mentioned to me as an alternative.  I  will be getting my local independent to service the car and they obviously will want to know the correct oil to order. Is there a choice of makes I can use? Are all makes as good as each other or is one a clear winner?  Thanks.

The Skoda VW recommended oil is 5w 30 FS long life oil,  VW 504 00 which can be used for Variable / flexible Servicing or Fixed.  (some might now say use 0w 30 FS ll,  best not...)

You can if doing fixed servicing use 5w 40 Full Synthetic to VW 502 00,   probably the best idea with a 2013 1.2 TSI engine,  oil changes at 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner.

If you are having warranty issues etc, then maybe you need to use the recommended oils, and use a mechanic that knows these engines.

?

What did the friends in the motor trade recommend and what are they VW Technicians / mechanics?

Be it Castrol / Quantum or Total, or Shell, Asda, Tesco, Comma or what ever produced and sold be whoever & is on the container is not what matters it is

the spec to VW 504 00 if on Variable or Fixed,

or VW502 00 is on Fixed. If you want a long lived engine, because Long Life oil as recommended is IMO not great for TSI engines.
