Parking brake

Featured Replies

Does the parking brake automatically switch on when you turn the ignition off and turn off when you start up and pull away or do you have to manually do it?

Does it automatically, took me a little while to get used to it though.

If you turn it to auto hold it puts handbrake on when you come to a stop if you push the brake pedal down and realeases as soon as you touch the throttle.

you get a green handbrake light on the dash when on auto, expect when you turn ignition off then it turns red.

^^^ Autohold is apply braking as needed, once you have activated it,

but Autohold is not applying the Electric Parking brake, but that is splitting hairs.

You know that because if you are stopped and have 'autohold', unfasten your seat belt, open the door, that is the Parking Brake that then deploys.

If you have auto hold switched on then if you open the door or undo your seatbelt the parking brake will come on and the green P symbol on the dash will turn into a red P.

Handy to know, thanks for that.

My Karoq is ordered with DSG. I think I understand the video, but having never driven the DSG before, I have a little learning to do.

Thanks for the post. Also useful to know a passenger can apply the brakes in an emergency.

Maybe try that in a safe place.  or maybe not.

I was going to check that i had £1 in for a shopping trolley and pulled the Electric Handbrake on at 50 mph.    Never again...... I was lucky as in the lorry behind was slowing to turn off so a bit behind.

won't there be a safety feature to stop that happening

Well not in my experience.  Borrow a demonstrator and try for yourself...

Wow. Will remember that! For dire emergency only.

Correction to my earlier post. Parking brake engages when door opened or ignition switched off (not seatbelt undone).

I concur.

Pulling the handbrake switch when moving is an interesting experience. Not to be repeated except in an emergency.

I think the manual suggests you can / should pull it in an emergency should the brake pedal fail to do what it’s supposed to do.
