Enabling Traffic Sign Assist/ Fatigue Detection

Featured Replies

Thank you for all your advice, just scared of doing something wrong. Is there a dummy guide for activating traffic sign assist using the VCDS? - or is it as easy as activating it by a check mark readingtraffic sign assist?

  • Hello. I found the following link in this thread and I tested it today. It worked perfectly on Octavia 3 MY2015. I see above that it was widely discussed if the option is useful or not, but I still li

  • If you have lane assist you can have traffic sign recognition. Done it on 3 Superbs and 1 Octy so Kodiak should be very much the same I presume.

  • Lane Assist on the O3 wasn't particularly nice when set to 'adaptive' mode. As you say, it seemed to bomb out lots even with both hands firmly on the wheel.   However, Lane Assist on the Kod

I have. But almost every guide is different. For me, it seems like a total mess, with some hit 'n miss.

Some uses "Byte 24, Activate Bit 6" - and some don't. Some speaks of activation fusion mode, and some don't. Some uses ODB and some VCDS. Some says a passcode is required [Security Access - enter 20103], and some don't. Some gets restricted access, and some don't (this i seem to have figured out, is depended on MIB1 vs MIB2).

How on earth will I know what's the right guide for my car?

Maybe you are searching too wide.

Look for MQB platform, Passaut B8, Tiguan 2 and Golf 7.

Might work.

Well this is actually one of the guides I found. But I have the Amundsen, not the Columbus, can’t figure out if that makes any difference. Also, why Untick Byte 24 Bit 6 - Traffic Sign Display (VZA)?

isn’t that the whole idea , showing traffic sign in the display? - so why disable?

Usually when coding, it doesn`t make difference what headunit you have, until it originally supports the feature.

Make a copy of your default settings first with VCDS and then start testing. You can revert the settings anytime until you have the original configuration.

Thank you for all your help. But as of now, there are to many guides saying different things. No one can agree if VZA should be disabled or not, or what the difference is between VZA and VZE.

Some guides says to deactivate Byte 24 Bit 6 - Traffic Sign Display (VZA), and some say to activate.

This is just to much of a gamble for me, to fiddle with settings, no one can explain unanimously. So as of now, unless the above can be explained, I’m not doing anything.

You could take it to a dealer and ask them to activate it for you and pay the fee, if Skoda can't do it then try a VW dealer

If you're talking about the infotainment, I think that setting pertains to the source of the speed signs for the sat nav screen.  The choices are "map" or "traffic sign recognition".  I don't know which is which.  There is also an adaptation called 'something something fusion' that in theory should be able to set a source priority, so if the TSR didn't see a sign, then the source should switch to map. Unfortunately it's all in German so I have no idea which is which.

I can check tomorrow my codings, I have traffic sign recognition ordered from factory.

There are two types of traffic signs - one is what is displayed on your navigation map (I think it`s default for Kodiaq but at some Suberbs you had to activate it with VCDS) and the other is real time sign recognition with windshield camera.

By default it shows map based signs on your MFD / VC, but if camera finds some traffic signs which differ from the default ones, it displays the camera ones.

Great, so with your help and my digging, this is what we discovered

VZA = Navigation based speed on the MMI

VZE = Sign recognition using camera

And the adaptation called 'something something fusion' is to combine the two. So if no signs are on the road, the VZA is used. But the system will prefer the VZE if both are activated. Which I think is quite clever.

I did read somewhere, that it could give some errors if both where activated

- and that it might be caused by camera needs some updating also (traffic signs not coded in  camera), but this is a whole new problem

@linni did you have both the VZA and VZE and fusion mode enabled by default from factory setting ?

Now, checked the codings.

Take Gizmo`s instructions, they are exactly the same as mine codings.

Controller 5F (Information Electrical)

10 - Adaptations

traffic_sign channels active for 63 and 151.

Found another channel 64B, was set to "Databus extended". Don`t know if it has a meaning. Just for case.

Also channel 60B to active

Controller A5 (Front / front view camera)

07 - Coding

Byte 16

bit 4 should be ticked (TSR-VZE active PR QR9)

Controller 17 (Instruments)

07 Coding

Byte 5

Bit 2 Enable - “Traffic Sign Recognition installed":

Controller 5F (Information Electr.)

07 - Coding

Byte 24 Bit 6 - untick Traffic Sign Display (VZA) active:

Then check:

4. Controller A5
Adaptation
Channel 1B Road sign detection fusion mode
Must set to Road sign fusion

So, VZA inactive, VZE and Fusion active.

Finally reboot your headunit (long press some two buttons, cannot remembr which ones).

@linniThank you so much for your help. With all the guides I had found, yours is now the complete and correct Traffic Sign Assist activation guide.

Gismo's guide does not mention Fusion mode at all.

If I hadn't gotten your help, I would have activated both VZA and VZE and Fusion. Or only VZE with Road Sign Detection (not fusion). For rebooting headunit, I have read that it is done by holding the power button for about 10 seconds.

It makes no sense using fusion mode, when only VZE is active ;o) - but as your car is set by factory defaults to VZA inactive, VZE and Fusion active, this must be the correct way of doing this.

Thank you so much.

@linniI found this on another forum

The Byte 24 bit 6 must be ticked, without it Sign Assist menu doesn't appear on both displays, just sign at the top :

Controller 5F (Information Electr.)
07 - Coding
Byte 24 Bit 6 - untick Traffic Sign Display (VZA) active

So maybe it would work with both VZE and VZA activated, knowning that it is not default factory settings. But providing the option of seeing the traffic sign on both displays at the same time. Don't know if any of this is correct though. But still, might be interesting.. I get my car, hopefully this thursday. That's why I've been this anxious to figure all this out.

I have quite the drive to a a person with a VCDS toolkit, so I would like it correctly configured at first try.

Coding itself takes only a few minutes.

You can try first one coding with VZA and then another. And meanwhile take a quick trip to make sure things are working.

When reading another forums look at the dates first when information is posted. Older hardware has different solutions.

P.S. Found a forum you quoted, the discussion is over OBD11. Well, th basic idea must be same, but you don`t know how OBD11 crew has decoded the controller coding. Maybe their "VZA off" means "VZA on" in VCDS language.

Anyway, try first my settings as they are from factory, and if it`s not working properly you can tick VZA again.

Will do, I'll report back, when I go getting the coding done.

@snowatom

Forgot to mention, noticed in module A5 bit 5 must be Market: Europa and bit 6 Country: Europa.

Edited by linni

Ok thanks. I would assume my car would already be like that, as it is in Europe, Denmark.

Not necessarily. Read meanwhile in forums that if the region doesnt match (even in cars bought in Europe) the sign recognition won`t work.

For example I enabeled automatic summer time with VCDS and for that I had to set in some other module zone for Europe. It was blank before.

So worth to check these out.

Ok. Thanks. Weird why summertime isn’t default activated.

Just got my car, and it is fantastic. I noted that the rear lights aren’t always on. I think it depends on the level of daylight. I have searched for a code for enabling the rear lights to always on, but haven’t found any. Does anyone know if such a code exists ?

It does. Google some Passat forums.

I activated "eyelashes" always on with VCDS. Do not know if because of this or not, but my rear lights are constantly on.

Thanks,
