Your thoughts on a used Yeti 2013

Featured Replies

Hello there!

i have been looking for a car for my wife and i saw a Yeti 2013 with 52,000KMs and it seems to tick the boxes i want for price, space and interior (not a big fan of the front headlights!). The car has a 1.8 turbo petrol engine and a 6spd DSG gearbox.

how is the reliability of this engine/transmission combo? Generally, are their any draw backs, faults or general failures to be aware of (electrical, mechanical, etc)?

Honestly, i am looking for a reliable car that i won’t be spending much to run, maintain and fix.

thanks!

Welcome.

The 6 speed DSG pretty bullet proof with 40,000 mile oil changes.

The 1.8TSI sadly not so much.  But maybe the failure rate / high oil consumption and timing chain issues not that high.

Check the Pinned thread in the Octavia Mk2 section on 1.8 & 2.0 TSI engines.

& do a search on this forum for 1.8 TSI issues with the Yeti.

Thanks for the reply, i looked over the MK2 forum and there are failure reports more than i can handle for the 2.0, and some are for thr 1.8

I think i will stay away from the Yeti, i won’t be comfortable knowing an engine can fail anytime! Might as well stay away from all VW group cars all together!

Thing is fella, almost every motoring forum will have seemingly high % of negative reports highlighting ' failed this failed that ' it's human nature to complain and being amoungst likewise ' fellow failures ' although doesn't repair anything seems to make posters feel better

dig deeper and view the positive long term views of satisfied owners but accept the small numbers of complaints ( relative to overall sales ) will highlighted and therefore discussed but satisfaction is expected ( and rightly so )
