RIP Fabia VRS. What to do next?

Summary: Scrap or sell privately for parts?

Alas, my injector misfire fault has grown into more than the expected wiring loom problem and it turns out it's going to require an injector change and some other bits and bobs.

The car has done 180,000 and, being in London and rarely using it, it's with a degree of sadness that I declare it probably more economical to get rid of it (in terms of tax/insurance/servicing etc.).

Anyway, it's at my parents house in Somerset at the moment and my mother suggests scrapping it. I wonder whether I can make a few more pennies out of selling it privately for parts (for instance, to one of your lovely selves). It's in  good nick other than the injector issue and recently had a big service that replaced a shedload of stuff.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Cheers

Maybe advertise as complete on BRISKODA in Cars for Sale and see if someone wants to trailer it away after paying you some cash money.

Is it a complete non-runner then?

It still goes - I drove it back to Somerset from London to get it looked at (probably unwise, in hindsight). It just shakes an awful lot...

Apparently the injector had come loose and is pretty broken.

And with regards to putting it up for sale on here unfortunately 1) I'm not a FREEDOM member, and 2) I have no idea how much I'd advertise it for - which is, apparently, required...

I hate to put you in a more difficult situation than you already are but that sounds like total BS, if a unit injector had come adrift it would take the top end and the cambelt with it and there's no way it would run at all.

I strongly suggest you take it to an independent VW specialist, MCM at Radstock can't be that far, and get a second opinion:

I know London is expensive, but Zummerzet is in the bumble**** dark ages for mechanics skill sets, a VRS isn't a piece of agricultural machinery.

Sounds to me like the garage you took it to didn't know how/want to fix it. Could be the injector seal which has gone causing the misfiring and wouldn't be too expensive to get repaired. As sep says get a second opinion from somewhere decent. If you can fix it for little money then you can keep it or sell it for more than you'd ever get scrap.

Any way  it could be just the loom to the injectors? I know it goes brittle over time as its oil? Just saying.

500 pence to advertise on BRISKODA and you are on a site where skoda enthusiasts are maybe looking for a vehicle.  Spares or repairs.

I appreciate this, however when clicking the link to FREEDOM on the sales forums it takes me to the forum homepage. (have now found the thread regarding membership...

I'm happy to do that, this was more to gauge whether people think that would be the more profitable thing to do, which it seems it might be...

Only you can decide.

Selling a runner seems the best plan.

As it is Breaking it requires advertising, responding and the work that goes with that, getting paid, time and effort.

Sell it and Cash in hand, one transaction.  Ta Ra Fabia,

Or just get it properly fixed and carry on driving it. Boom, profit.

Get fixed, Insure, take to London.  possibly gets stolen, payout, result.

Hahaha, I don't know how I missed this response before...

I had a reputable garage in London take a look at the fault in the first instance (not sure they went as far as taking the rocker cover off though). They told me that, were it a fault with the injector and it required replacing, it would probably not be economical to repair.

I would absolutely love to get it fixed. Unfortunately I don't really have the time or money to be going back to Somerset and taking it elsewhere to be charged more money to possibly be told it'll cost 500 quid to get it sorted.

They were testing your resolve and the girth of your wallet because they didn't know what was wrong with it either.

Can I therefore assume you just drove it to M&D's to park it up while time passed? Now M&D want it off the drive because quite some time has passed and they've seen and heard neither hide nor hair from you since Christmas. You've quite rightly decided you don't need a car in London and you've cancelled the VED and the insurance payments and declared it SORN. Meanwhile you've been spunking the cash saved on booze and burds and you can't be arsed to sort it now and just want the thing teleported to the heart of the sun so you don't have to spend yet moar munny on a train ticket, re-insurance and road tax before driving it to a proper garage for them to charge you an unknown amount to find out and fix what's actually wrong with it.

Welcome to the machine.

Stick it on ebay, you can sell it as a repairable runner, some bumpkin will pick it up from your folks place and put the cash in their hands, you can stay in the boozer and remote control the whole thing from the big smoke.

I wouldn’t scrap it I would sell it privately, If you really can’t decide on what you would be happy for it bang it on eBay with a 99p start and no reserve.
