Tyres - bad luck

Featured Replies

Anyone else seem to get bad luck with their tyres on these things? Been driving since 2009, never had issues with tyres other than the odd repairable puncture.

Just over a month ago, I got a screw in a tyre at a funny angle, meaning it wasn't repairable - brand new tyre required. Today, I've discovered pot hole damage (bulges / cuts) on both my front tyres!

Expensive month :(

Been driving since 1995 & never had a puncture in any of my previous cars. Have had my Octavia 3 years and have had 2 punctures on it, one requiring a new tyre!

I’ve always joked that repairing tyres was a falicy, I have never managed to experience a repairable puncture!

I've always felt that as modern cars got lower profile tyres they seemed to be more susceptible to punctures.

Because lower profile usually means bigger width therefore greater chance of something going into the tyre.

I remember my Vauxhall VX 490 (70's) thinking 175 width was a really big tyre!:D

You must be unlucky - I've only had 1 puncture in 11 years of driving. Our Lancashire roads are terrible for potholes though, Mrs often jokes and warns me that I'm "not on Mario Kart now" when avoiding multiple ones on some of the worst roads!

Hope I'm not tempting fate here...

The only "puncture" I've had in my Skoda ownership period (3 cars over 6 years) was my own fault. We have some of the old metalised kerbs still around here and I was stupid enough to run the sidewall of my SII Greenline down one of them with the inevitable result of a sliced side-wall. And of course because it was a Greenline, no spare tyre. Oddly enough the repair gloop wasn't going to sort that, so a sunny sunday afternoon written off at a tyre repair place having been towed by the AA. I've spec'd a spare tyre on each of the new cars since then.

I've suffered a puncture of a car tyre. Several on my motorcycles over the years. Seems the skinny front tyre sets the nail/screw up nicely for the back tyre. Fortunately, they are easily repaired on the roadside. Man, I really don't miss the bike...

I had a puncture repaired two weeks ago, then on Good Friday hit a pothole hidden under a puddle and destroyed nsf tyre...

Three punctures in 17,000 miles.  Pirellis!  One of them needed a replacement tyre.  The other two were repairable.  Very pleased I have a space saver.  All cars should have them as standard.  It is ridiculous penny pinching on the part of the manufacturers not to provide them.

Three in 17,000? I'm jealous. I've written off three tyres in 1500 miles :(

My previous car had one puncture in 92000 miles.  Michelins

Gits:angry:

You lot chatting about punctures and I go and get one too

So do I get it repaired or change 2 tyres for better than the p7?

You are more likely to get a puncture when it is wet. It has been wet recently.

Low profile tyres with a low tyre pressure on alloys and a pothole is the way to bend your wheels and/or get a punctured sidewall.

Don't drive near the kerb, don't drive through puddles/potholes and keep your tyre pressure up will all help.

Had someone who drove for 50 yards on a new tyre before it suffered an irreparable puncture.
