unrealistic pricing of the vrs.

Featured Replies

Evening folks.

I have been the proud owner of a mk1 vrs for 8 years  up until last year when we decided to sell it for something newer which was a 62 plate fabia monte carlo.

Since the day i sold it i regret it ,cheap to run , goes pretty well and also i love the look of it too.

Im now after one again as a 2nd car but for the life of me cant understand why these young lads think they are worth £2500 grand?

Im a vehicle  tec by trade but work in a very busy family run ford dealership so fully aware of vehicle values and also have access to online up to date vehicle values. For example a 2005 vrs with 130000 is worth approx 1300 to 1500 give and take in good condition.

I have contacted a few people for more spec on cars i have seen with dents scratches ripped seats asking for sums of 1700 onwards....

Really? Its only worth what its worth. If someone is willing  pay that then fair enough.

Has anybody else noticed this or is it just  me?

You may have answered your own question right there? Supply and demand.

There Is plenty about and half of them are nails at a ridiculous price.

Doesn't change the fact that if people are paying those prices for those nails, then that's what they are worth.

I paid more than that for mine when it had 153k on the clock and full service history, bought it February last year. The paint isn't the best and there are a few rust spots creeping through but mechanically it is spot on. I would expect to pay that as the minimum for a semi good one. These cars are holding value quite well unlike fords which go to peanuts until they are old and now worth stupid money and being stolen all over the country.

Its a free market. The Fabia Mk1 Vrs will find it’s own value. At any negotiated price, buyers are free to buy or not, and sellers are free to sell or not.

There is a kind of cult following of the mk1 vRS. It's a small fast hatchback and diesel. Never made a mark2 diesel so all the more reason to perhaps want one. Plenty of people modify them or keep standard. Demand sets the price and good examples go for a lot of money.

Personally can see why the book price means little for some of these on the market.

Erm , they aren’t physically worth it tho. And I’m finding a lot of the cars aren’t  selling when I’m searching but the seller won’t drop the price because he was offered 2200 from Dave down the road... but Dave hasn’t coughed up still lol.

see my point they are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I appreciate if you find a minter it’s worth paying a little more for that.

Anyway I must be on my own  on this one lol.

On the other hand maybe I gave mine away because that was like new tbh in comparison to the ones I’ve seen.

^^^ ?

How much did you pay for a 62 plate Monte Carlo, & is it a petrol or diesel,

and how much might someone pay you for it now do you think?

I get where you are coming from When you compare it to the likes of a Mk4 golf.

I wouldn’t call the VRS rare, more uncommon and I think that has a lot to do with it, and you don’t realize how uncommon they are especially in half decent nick until your looking to buy one.

Cheap ones come up on Facebook all the time if that helps you.

Are you allowed to buy the trade ins at cost at your dealership? You could always keep your eye out for someone trading a Fabia vRS in and have first refusal before it is sent to auction?

One of my family members was offered £1600 for her 2005 Fabia vRS against a brand new swift last month. The Fabia had 85k on the clock, FSH, 2 owners from new, good condition, and unmodified.

In the end a friend bought it for a little more than the trade in value.

There are some good ones out there

Do you want to know your best option ?

give up looking for one and its nailed on that two or three will turn up !!

its called SODS LAW !!

( same a toast always falls buttered side down etc etc )

Very true. Yea I can buy trade ins, but I have been here 15 years and never had one come in lol.

My point is if you find a decent fabia yes it’s worth paying that little more but so many lads think they are worth way more than what they are.

The national data base is a guide to price of vehicles in GOOD condition so like I said they are way overpriced on what the guide is and note not SELLING.

See that fabia Of your friends is about right.

Awaoffski I don’t see your point with my monte ? I paid 5500 for a 62 plate petrol with 25000 miles if I were to sell it it would be sold for what it’s worth not a grand over priced with ripped seats and dents and scratches like I’m seeing.

As I mentioned in another post, I was talking to a Dealer who had a VRS advertised at a price but when I was sounding really interested, he said he had been talking to a VRS specialist who told him he was selling too cheap (he wasn't) and then he put price up by £500!! Car price went from £3500 up to £4000....and it wasn't even in great condition as it turned out, nor was it an SE

Well I managed find one finally! And at a resonable price too.

The chap has owned it from new 95thousand full service history etc etc, outstanding condition on a 54 plate at 1600 like new inside.

Happy days.

Alls well ....... as they say.

let et me know when the other two turn up and we'll bag a couple of bargains and sell them on for some beer tokens
