Brake Problem

Featured Replies

Hi.  I’ve had a problem with my brakes but, when the garage drove the car, the brakes were fine.  They’ve checked the car over and cannot find anything wrong.  When I drove it last, the brakes were getting increasingly softer on the first push of the pedal but worked ok on the second push and they were like that until I got the car home (about 2 miles).  About 2 years ago the same thing happened except that time I put my foot on the brake, the pedal went straight to the floor with no resistance but it was alright immediately after.  Again, on that occasion, it didn’t happen when the garage had it, and everything checked out ok that time too.  They changed the master cylinder as a precaution.  However, I then had problems with that because the brakes would come on by themselves after about 20 mins driving.  That issue was eventually resolved when the garage eventually fitted a Skoda part.  Since then the brakes have been fine until now.  Any ideas what might be happening.  The garage still have it at the moment but, if they don’t find anything, I’ll not be comfortable driving it at all.  Thanks for any ideas.

Check the clearanse  on the mechanism between the pedal - the pin that goes to the piston in mastersylinder. If there is no cleraranse the heat will build up pressure in the system. May be the pin can be adjuster or you can chim on the fastening points .

Thanks Torbo.  I’ll get my mechanic to check that for me.  I’ll report back the outcome.
