just called the dealer, it will be a MY19 car, but cannot state if it will be delivered this year.

He did state that there are lots of issues with the new Emissions  regulations and that is also causing a delay.

Starting to think if this is all worth it or not...............................

I test drove the 2.0 and the 1.4 petrol. I would choose the 2.0 personally for the extra power. The Kodiaq is a big car which benefits from more power and torque. This is not about overtaking and driv

To give you guys an update, am currently living in Switzerland and ordered the Kodiaq in Feb.

Still not build date, in fact nothing from the dealer whatsoever.  Asked them once or twice already and they say no details yet. I suspect that the Swiss have not purchased enough Build slots or something.

Apparently Germany in the same situation.

Makes you wonder if you could place an order in France or Italy for a Swiss specification model. I know you can do this with Audi’s.

The issue there is that you then need to do the import process , pay the tax on one side then claim it back in the Swiss or pay more tax  etc...too much extra work ;-)

First experience of ordering a brand new car and its not going well to be honest...

  • 3 months later...

I am very suprised by some of the comments againgst the 2.0 TSi on here.

I will be buying a 2.0 TSI 4x4 DSG. I use it on farm tracks and lanes, go into fields usually with people and heavy kit.  On the open road i want a good power to weight ratio, a smooth drive and a bit of oomph in reserve.

I have driven both and the 1,4 is a sweet little engine and IMHO suitable for a family use around town in 2WD and holidays.  Not for my usage.

It has nothing to do with speed or overtaking ability, just ease of driving and a relaxed effortless cruising ability.

Have you tried selecting Eco at the start of each journey in driving modes and lifting off early for traffic lights and roundabouts and you will be amazed at how much fuel you will save. My DSG 4WD Superb averaged 40mpg despite weighing 1,660kg and having 360bhp available thanks to a stage 1 map. Keep using Eco for a month and see if you can improve even 10% to say 28/29mpg, worth a go at least as it won't cost you anything to try.

@Squaddie1980

Welcome to the forum.

Is that actually just 252 miles you can travel for 10 gallons / 45.5 litres or so used?

Is that going on longer runs with yourself and passengers and stuff in the car in the UK?

Funny thing is my car stays in Eco mode permanently. When I first got the car I was doing about 330 miles to a tank, I read a few forums and reviews on how to increase fuel consumption and now I'm getting about 380 miles. I've had the car since end of October so 2 months and I've filled up 5 times.

Is remapping your car worth it as a friend did it to his Vauxhall Insignia VXR 2.8 and is doing better mileage than my car before he remapped his car??

Thank you for the welcome, I'm a big fan of Skoda as I use to have a 65 plate Skoda Octavia VRS 2.0 TDI.

Its short runs from home to work which is only a 28 mile round trip everyday Monday to Friday and its just me in the car.

I have 60 L tank and did 330 miles now doing 380 miles which is ridiculous if you ask me.

It is, but anything you read about 38.2 mph was tests of a vehicle on a rolling road inside a building.

Nobody but you knows where you drive, how fast you drive and how far you drive at any one time.

If you get an average 29 mpg then sometime you must get very low mpg and sometimes higher to have that average.

Well my Superb 272 was only standard for 6 weeks before having the map but the best it managed with only 283bhp )actual rolling road figure) was 45mpg but that was during last winter and in the summer it managed 48mpg down to Newquay in Cornwall but temperatures were much higher (26C). You will see the worst economy figures over the next few months but from Spring (March) you should she a gradual improvement. The 66 litre tank on the Superb gave me typically 560 miles but the Newquay trip suggested nearly 720 miles so longer trips make a big difference.

@Squaddie1980 As others have said welcome to the forum

Where and how you drive can make a massive difference, I can tell you as a guide that my 2019 TSI 4x4 190 over 31k miles has averaged 36 mpg at the pump. It can go as low as 28 when in an urban environment (or if I have a lead foot) or up to 48 mpg on a long run on the motorway being very careful (but this can be boring!). I very rarely change out of normal mode to eco or sport. You may see the eco symbol appearing on the dash if you lift of the throttle lightly as it coasts, if you lift off quickly or brake it does not.

I have used the fuelly app to monitor the consumption, so I’m sure that is accurate.

I can also see that the mpg goes down a bit when colder.

It’s always worth just checking the basics like tyre pressures and removing weight / roof bars, minimising use of accessories  etc. to ensure you are getting the best mpg, but I’m sure you’re aware of this.

I have also tried higher octane fuel (momentum 99) over a long period but nothing to note on mpg really (different debate)

I went into ownership expecting a lower mpg than that of other models, but with the trade off of the bit extra grunt and the 4 x 4 which will inevitably reduce the mpg.

I hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction and enjoy the car, the Sportlines do look very smart.

Thank you for the advice, it makes a lot of sense, I'm not a mechanic and don't really know all the technical stuff about vehicles. But what you have said is very helpful thank you.

I'm away for 6 months so I won't have the opportunity to drive it in summer that much. Will start keeping tabs on my driving style and see what difference it makes on my fuel consumption.👍

Let's be honest who buys a 4wd, nearly 2 ton, 190bhp auto for high mpg?

Mine does anything from 20 to 32 around town, if I'd have wanted mpg I'd have bought a fiesta!

Something obviously worked if you gained an extra 50miles per tank ?

A few questions - when did you buy the car? Have you had the car since 2018? How many miles has the car covered? Do you know the service history?  Your daily commute is 28miles - what's your average speed for those 14 miles? Is it thru stop/start commuter traffic or on major fast flowing roads?   If you look at the Long-Term fuel economy read out, what is it reporting and over how many miles was that?

As others have said the quoted figures are a waste of time, it's always best to see what other folk report in the real-world.  If your car is the 180bhp version then the average person should expect 31mpg. If it's the 190bhp version, the average person should expect 33mpg.  ( as reported in HonestJohn real world tests )

@AndyMorris Hi Andy, hope you are keeping well.

Don’t forget the not too forgiving aerodynamics of a large SUV!

PS some of them Fiesta’s don’t hang around you know😀

@Greenliner1 hi ya fella be a long time, If I wanted speed a fiesta wouldn't be on my list, A45 for kicking about in would be fine...... sorry to have kicked topic off track....

Merry Christmas to you all

I have an Edition 2.0 TSi and IMHO the engine is one of the standout features, being quiet and smooth, lots of low-down shove and thus the car feels effortless to drive.

Previous car was Golf Alltrack (4WD) Estate auto diesel and I was expecting a significant reduction in mpg going to the Skoda, but I've been very, very pleasantly surprised, since in mpg terms (and I'm able to compare identical journeys) the Skoda is achieving better than 75% of the Golf's mpg.

Of course, the standard warning is that the type of journey and how you drive determines mpg, so my results of this fuel consumption comparison may not apply to you. But so far, I've been unexpectedly impressed by this aspect of the car.

I have the 2.0 TSI (190) and love it for what it is. The lowest mpg I've seen is 6.9mpg when i went a mile down the road towing my laden trailer. The best 43mpg. I changed to petrol after 20 years with diesel and am loving it. Overall I am spending about the same of fuel per annum as i was with my previous diesel Kia Sorento. The mpg is compensated for by having a smooth, quiet and powerful engine (don't forget the 0-60 is 7.9secs and it has 'launch control' for a bit of fun!). I also tow a 1600kg caravan and the towing mpg is the same as I got with my Sorento - the torque of the TSi is so good and 'diesel' like low down the rev range.
