PSB rear console bushes.

Featured Replies

I changed the old standard rear console bushes with red PSB ones this weekend as I wanted to hopefully correct a slight drift to the left. (Which it has)

Now then. On pulling away or braking sometimes I can hear them creak and groan. Is this normal for them? I used new wishbone arms and didn't grease up the front bush admittedly in my haste. Could this be the issue or is the groaning and creaking part of having PSB bushes??

Cheers all.

John

ive had psb bushes for 10 months now 12,000 miles no noises or creaking whatsoever. They may settle, front bush shouldnt matter as its solid.

You should have greased the bush inside and out if not might want to remove arms and grease up

I greased the PSB Bush with lithium as It was a tight fit. I'll give a little time and see how they go. On the plus. Car drives nice and straight for the first time ever. No creaking on the corners. Just groaning when I reverse or move forward sometimes. I'll turn my music up this week and have a look at the weekend. Is it worth having it four wheel alignment check?

Cheers

On a side note. I used pattern wishbones. Could they be a bad fit? Ie; some movement at the front bush?

Did you tighten the big wishbone bolts with the wheels on the ground (or at least simulated as if they were?) If you tightened them with the suspension hanging you might have torsion in the small front bush. I simulated the weight of the car being on its wheels by putting a jack under each wishbone and lifting it until I thought it was in a similar position that it would be if  the wheels were on the ground. Then I torqued the bolts.

Ah. I tightened them while the car was I the air. I'll redo this and report back.

Cheers mate :)

Greased everything up and retorqued on the ground. Hasn't made much difference:(

I'm starting to think it's the pattern wishbones I used as the spigot is much longer got one thing. And the front bush is smaller in diameter which makes me think everything is moving around too much.

Could I be on the right track?

Cheers for the help so far. :)

Failing that. I have a set of meyle hd ones that I'll let my mechanic tackle on Saturday:) heard good things about them

I have Meyle HD ones on mine. Been on a few years now and no probs at all.

I'm puzzled why you're getting that creaking with the PSB ones though. Don't see how pattern arms would cause it.

Me too. I've given up now. Can't figure it out. I'll see how they go this week and if they don't settle down I'll have the meyle ones fitted by my mechanic . Cheers tmb for all the help

No probs bud. Hope you get it sorted :-)

Update. Fitted the meyle hd bushes. Much better. Firm but still comfortable.  Had it tracked up and for once it doesn't pull to the left :)

do you find the ride better without poly bushes ...

100% yes. Abit too crashy for me on polys. These are better than OEM IMO.
