I'd really like to order a Kodiaq but...

Featured Replies

I sent a query to Skoda last week inquiring when I might be able to order a new petrol engine Kodiaq (the 1.4 or its replacement). Not soon by the look of it:

Thank you for your recent contact with ŠKODA Customer Services.

I was delighted to learn of you interest in the ŠKODA KODAIQ, it is an excellent car.

Unfortunately orders have been closed for the petrol engines in the run up to the new model year; this is because all of our production capacity has been filled. However, we are hoping to be able to reopen production in August. I would advise that you register your interest with your nearest ŠKODA Approved Retailer to be notified when they become available.

Welcome.

Have you asked or checked if there are any ones built and on the way to the UK or already here and allocated to a Dealership and not yet First Registered?

Maybe something that suits what you wanted as a Factory order might be available.

Yes, but there's nothing with the options I want (Drivers Assistance, Heated windscreen, Heated steering wheel). I'll keep checking, but most likely I'll be waiting a few months to order a new one, then waiting a few months for it to arrive

Maybe quite a few months, they need the Real World test results.

Worth the wait though for a 1.5 TSI with GPF IMO.

Oh dear, its April and they hope to reopen production in August, 4 months away

I suggest you check to see if any unallocated or unsold ones are built and in transit,  might even be some in some showrooms that are unsold

The vague hope to reopen suggests it will be late September (or later) by the time you can physically get your hands on one.

The Skoda used section shows 24 Petrol Kodiaqs for sale at future dates (presumably registered by dealers), some might be demonstrators but others are effectively just sitting around until they are old enough for resale

I was literally about to head to the showroom this afternoon to order a 2.0 Petrol. Looks like I'll be getting a Diesel instead then.

I see on other threads that the 2.0 petrol engines are still available, but they only come as 4x4 which I'm not interested in.

I just spoke to Skoda CS and they say neither are available to order until about August time. I may ask them again quickly to make sure that it is both the 2.0 & 1.4 that aren't available. To be honest in the grand scheme of things the Diesel may well pay off better for me anyway in terms of Fuel economy

That will depend on your driving style, lots of short town journeys and savings wont happen.

Diesels not that efficient until warmed up, and you will have the problems of DPF regeneration unless you regularly do long journeys

There are stories of cars doing regenerations only getting 20-25 mpg during the cycle

You need to compare additional purchase cost (plus cost of Ad-blue and more expensive diesel fuel) against the better mileage

I do a 250 mile round trip every couple of weeks. So will be doing a fair amount of motorway cruising.

That will allow the DPF to work

But  250 miles x fortnightly is only 6500 miles per year,  not a lot to offset extra price

Depending on engine looking about £1800 - 2150 extra for the diesel

That's on top of all the other trips I do in between. I average about 20k a year give or take.

I think the biggest issue is going to be VED. Trying to tread that fine line to stay below it.

With petrol becoming more popular , I bet the price at the pump increases and I bet the price of the engines will soon be the same too, so maybe the difference in running costs will be close now too.

I don't know about UK VED as I live in Ireland - but 20K miles per annum and the driving routine you describe would tell me that diesel is more than justified in your case.

100% agree - you can easily justify 2.0 TSI if your doing less than 12k per annum.. But 20k a year with weekly m/way runs, I would go with 2.0 TDI.

Just finished at the dealers. Went for the 190 PS TDI so still got the "umpf" that I wanted with the 2.0 TSI. Had to drop a couple of options to stay lower on the VED but all in all I should still be a very happy bunny when delivery day comes.

I know you're after a Kodiaq, but have you considered the karoq??

There is a 1.5 TSi engine in the range and it may still be available.

I did actually, I came quite close to ordering one. However I realised its just ever so slightly too small. For me its all about the boot space. I want to be able to throw my golf clubs and trolley in the back without fiddling around with levers and seat positions (or removing seats). The Karoq is almost big enough, but not quite, particularly if you spec it with the spare wheel (the first one I looked at didn't have a spare wheel, which is why I thought it might be big enough).

"sitting around until they're old enough for resale" : why the need to wait before selling them ?

When I bought a ex demo I asked the same, something to with tax the reply.

I'm pretty sure Skoda UK insist on a predetermined level of availability for demonstrators across the country, and as a result they insist that certain cars used by their franchised dealers are made available for a set amount of time.

Their website suggests another reason, but I don't believe them :D

VAT is a red herring, you may be offered amount equivalent to VAT , but VAT is still payable

There is legislation, The Supply of new Cars Order, 2000

Basically if a car is registered as a demonstrator,  it must be kept minimum 90 days

It cannot be resold and you wouldn't be able to get the V5 ownership document, or tax it with DVLA   (tax is only part of the reason, being unable to register ownership is more fundamental)

The problem is some dealers also register additional cars (to meet sales bonuses and receive volume discounts from the manufacturer), even though they don't need that many,

Dealers also have cars which are used by staff as company cars, but although registered, and sold to the dealership, aren't available to be used as demonstrators

A car sold by the manufacturer to the dealer, however the dealer uses it for the minimum 90 days, (even sitting parked in a compound) falls under same rule.

Of course a car does not need to be registered to be taken for a test drive (that's what red trade plates allow)

Where forward date is shown on advert, almost certainly the 91st day from the day it was registered.
