Skoda Felicia Fun gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I’m having trouble finding out what the engine code for the Felicia Fun is. My box is beyond reconditioning and all components are totally finished.

So, the bloke who was reconditioning the ‘box says he can’t find the gearbox code, and the bloke at the breakers who thinks he may have a compatible box won’t sell it to me until he know the gearbox code. Apparently the AEE engine code isn’t enough.

Question 1- Do any of you lovely people know the gearbox code for the fun?

Question 2- Does anyone know if a ‘box off another car, a polo for example, would fit directly on?

Question 3- Have I got a cat in hell’s chance of sorting this by next weekend?

Picture is of the Fun in question. I have 2 (one yellow, one orange) and use them for my mobile catering business. Never let me down... until now.

Thanks in advance,

Jordan

The gearbox code is 14S with final drive 3.83.

On the gearbox there is an ID number engraved in the area shown in the illustration below. It is mandatory that the last digit to be 6.

Part number is 002300041L.

I don't know of any perfect match gearbox on other make/type of car.

What happened? Did it blew up?

It might be 14SK, if it's made after 1998.

Felicia has its own gearbox, modified Favorit one, which is not compatible with any other gearbox in VW group. By shape, all gearboxes will fit and work. 14SK variant has some modifications, which makes easier gear changes.

Version for VW engines is reinforced due to larger torque, but some people claim that 1.3 one works too. So only really important difference is final drive ratio.

However, there's one exception. Some cars with ABS were also equipped with EDS, which needed some modifications on differential, outdrives and drive shafts, so be sure that your car or donor car wasn't equipped with one. It has "E" identificator in front of ID number. But cars with EDS are very rare, so it won't be issue

Thanks for the info.

So if I got hold of a 1.3 gearbox, it would bolt straight on and work?

It did that unique trick where the oil came up through the speedo cable, emptied itself out dry and now it’s eff’d.

 Thanks

It depends on what you mean by "work". Yes, it will shift gears but you might not like the gear ratios on your engine because they are paired best with a lower power engine.

Really? Never seen or heard about that 'unique trick' on Felicia.

Is it your conclusion? Or is it what you've been told by a mechanic? Either way I would like to know how can a Bowden cable extract 2 liters of oil from the gearbox...

Well, in case of 14SK gearbox, 1.3 40kW and 1.6 have identical internals. 1.3 50kW (shortest box in Felicia) is ~10 km/h (~500RPM) slower on 5th gear.

About that "unique trick" - there is ventilation tube near clutch lever. If it's clogged, oil may come not only to speedo cable, but also out through outdrives
