Smartlink - Is it worth having?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've had a Octavia VRS 230 (65) for just over 6 months now and was wondering if it was worth purchasing a Smartlink license?

I've been quoted £137 by my local dealer.

Plenty of threads on this topic, it really depends how much you value having a smartphone interface on the car. You will be able to use your phones mapping, get and send texts, have full integration of music streaming services etc etc. If you don’t need any of these then it’s not worth it. I really wanted my Amazon Music collection sync’d in the car so I changed my radio from the MIB1 to a MIB2 to get SmartLink.

As above really.

For me it was a no brainer after I had it in a Focus hire car for 700 miles over a few days. While the mib2 Amundsen is much nicer than whichever Sync system was in the Focus, or whatever was in the Kadjar I had recently, I’m still glad I have CarPlay.

I find I use it more on longer journeys, if I’m just nipping to the shop I’ll queue up some music on Spotify or a podcast on on the way out of the door and just Bluetooth it, for longer journeys where I’ll be listening to multiple things or wanting live traffic (I’ve not tried the Skoda Connect live traffic enough times yet to trust it yet) I’ll plug in and use CarPlay.

I specd it on the build and happy I did mainly for google maps as the built in nav is ****e but it still ****es me off that I we have to pay extra for it on the VRS when it comes as standard on the fabia.

How did you get your MIB to MIB2? New head unit?

Dealer, specialist or did it yourself?

I have a Bolero MIB1, I like the DAB and bluetooth, but would love it if it could mirror Waze / Google maps navigation.

Starts on this page, finished article is on page 16 then screen upgrade on page 23. I did the fitting myself and had the coding done elsewhere :)
