Fabia II 1.4 tdi glow plug light flashing

Featured Replies

Morning all. Any ideas why my Glow Plug warning light may have started flashing? No 'Engine Workshop' message (but service symbol is on - serviced myself). Started today with all the awful rain and surface water we have down south. Starts and drives fine - any offers ? Can I drive it ? Thanks in advance !!

I had a fault light come up that also turned out to be the brake light switch AND a bulb, at the same time.  I don't think I got limp mode as I took it to the dealership quite promptly. I did, however, pay them around £120 or so, for a fault that is fairly well documented and costs around £25 to rectify.  Both the bulb and switch are cheap and fitting is ok if you can do those sorts of jobs. The biggest part of the bill was the diagnostics and fitting labour. If the salesman/ dealer had suggested looking at the rear brake lights whilst I was on the phone, I could have saved a lump! Now I know!

The limp mode is really just to protect the car from further damage so might just be the car reacting or in this case, over reacting, to a fault. Better to be safe, though!

I copied that from my reply from another issue, which specified brake light switch and bulb error. Might be worth looking though, to see if the brake lights are coming on before trying anything else!

Thank you - I have been busy reading the forum and that had come up but so far I had only seen it for Mk1s and I have a Mk11. I'll go and check the brake lights when the next deluge subsides! Will update later - many thanks for the swift response .

Well well well........ As far as I can see through the awful rain the high level brake light works but the left and right ones don't! So my simple brain points towards both bulbs rather than the switch as surely the high level light wouldn't;t work either if the switch were faulty???

so an update....

I have changed both main brake light bulbs and the glow plug light has extinguished. I won't pretend to understand the logic but am grateful to you for your advice  - I assume there SHOULDN'T be an underlying issue here, just one of those things ?

@amp1967 - Skoda - Simply too "clever" for their own good? ;)

Yeah, just used as a warning but-WHAT an effin' warning! You think the engine is about to go "POP" only to find the car needs a few bulbs that cost a fiver!
