Car doesn't start after warm

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is a problem which has been a pain for past one week. Due to work hours, I currently have no time to get the car checked, I'm trying to do it as soon as possible.

Whenever you drive the car for good 30 minutes or more, turn off, try to turn it on and it refuses to. The car does cranks but the glow plug light does flash for 3 to 5 seconds. I wait a bit and let the engine cool down before I can finally start the car. This is pretty embarassing after you drive on a highway and stop at a petrol station.

I'm not sure what the problem could be. Today, I had visited the authorised service centre and they told me to get the battery checked first before going ahead with anything else. I did as they told me to, though the new battery hadn't no change with the issue.

I googled a bit, most of them are related to EGR valve while few of them to the diesel pump filter or fuel filter. I haven't checked the brake lights, is that relevant to the issue we are discussing on?

I'm new to the forum! Had about 5 Skoda's in the past 20 years, no issue like this.

Here is some details:

Manufacturing date: 2013

Date of purchase: (December, 2013)

Engine: Skoda 2.0 TDI CR

Kilometres/Miles: 136k miles (220000 kilometres)

Car is driven with extensive care.

Pardon me if this is a wrong section I have posted the thread in.

No, it's the Yeti section.

I suggest you take it back to the garage and get them to read the fault codes, since the glow plug light flashing covers numerous faults.

It sounds like the typical telltale symptom of a failing crankshaft position sensor (although not sure if one is used on these diesels)

I take it the weather is very hot where you are?.

In the old days you would assume fuel vaporisation which goes away after cooling down but not so common these days.

Not on a diesel.

I had something similar on a Corsa VXR a few years ago. Turns out it was the fuel pump, might be worth a look?

EDITED - the engine on the VXR would just shut off when it got warm, so may not actually be the issue of course.
