DSG rollback? question

Featured Replies

I am used to torque converter auto boxes, but this is my first DSG.

A question : Lets say the Auto Hold function is NOT being used, I was wondering would the car roll back on a reasonably steep hill, once the brake pedal is released and before acceleration. Or would the engine/gearbox or brakes "hold" the car stationary or creep forward?

Excuse my ignorance. Not many hills in my part of Cheshire.

Thanks.

Hill hold assist will hold for 2-3 seconds while you go brake to accelerator if you have not Autohold enabled.

Thanks for the swift reply!

I have spent ages looking in the handbook to no avail.

I had this happen the other day on an uphill junction when autohold wasnt on.

I went to pull away quickly and the car rolled backwards and then did a wheelspin as the DSG engaged.

Autohold is good but it does jerk a bit when you pull away.

Still playing with all the DSG and autohold settings, its my first automatic.

Autohold should not really cause a jerk as you pull away.

I find the Electric Parking brake can though.

I am finding the DSG responds better to a "light touch" on the accelerator.

I am loving the autohold and the start/stop compared to my Octavia, now I can brake and the engine stop and autohold engages and I can take my foot off the brake just sit there without having to worry. In the Octavia I had to hold my foot on the brake or put into park otherwise the engine would restart.

I agree especially when Autohold is enabled and start/stop has activated.  when you start to press the accelerator pedal, the car starts, rev rise and theres a slight jerk as the brakes disengage.  I'm just starting to tap the accelerator to start the engine, then slowly accelerate to smoothly release the autohold.

Not tried on a steep hill yet - but theres one I want to try it on shortly so I'll try it with and without Autohold to see what happens.

Good plan. Could you let me know how you get on please?

Will do :)

The DSG responds to brake pedal pressure, with stop/start reduce the brake pedal pressure slightly and the engine will start but the car is still held by the brakes, (with or without stop start)  reduce the pedal pressure more and the DSG clutches engage, press the accelerator when the car just starts to move.

The beauty is no brake is required after stopped with autohold.   And stop start can be switched off.

This was the case with my Octavia, but with the Karoq and autohold you can take your foot completely off the brake and it doesn't start until you tap the accelerator

I slightly rock the steering wheel to start the engine first, and then press the accelerator to pull away when auto hold and start stop is engaged, I find the car does not judder when pulling away.

The engine will also start when the car in front moves off. Clever Karoq!
