Ride quality

Featured Replies

Hi I have just driven a 1.0 dsg karoq and been mighty impressed with the ride and the engine.  It was an se spec with 17”

As I’m likely to want a 1.5 edition can I ask owners how they have found the ride on the 19” wheels with 40 profile tyres?  Has anyone managed to do a comparison?

Aside, after the karoq drive I drove an XC40 Petrol to see where an extra 10k goes.  I was expecting to be impressed due to all the press reviews but the ride was terrible (20”) and the engine was gruff

I don’t want to order an edition then regret the wheels!  I currently can’t find an edition spec to ride/test drive (anyone around derby willing to let me have a ride!!)

I have the edition and and am very happy with the ride.

Before this I had a Qashqai with 19" wheels and the ride was much worse, potholes and breaks in the road would crash through the whole car.

With the Karoq I'm still bracing for the bang if I see a pothole too late but it just floats over it.

It does roll a little bit more in the corners than the Qashqai but I'll take the more comfortable ride any day.

The ride is fine on 19's, floats along

it's good, expected worse, whilist it's 19 inch, the tyre has bit more fat due to large wheel arches

Only 40 profile which kind of scared me,

thanks for for the replies...I’ve also managed to find a demo to try over the next few days!

I find the ride quality on my Edition really good. It doesn't crash over potholes.

I don't know if thats because the rear has independent suspension as its the 4x4.

I had a Qashqai with 19" wheels before the Karoq and the suspension was harder. Also it had solid beam suspension on the rear which isn't as good.

My 11 year old qashqai rides smoother  than my edition on 19 rims so bought a second set of 18 wheels and found the ride improved. Also check out the cost of replacement tyres for the 19 crater rims, make your eyes water. Style over substance!

What size wheels on the qashqai though?

My 2015 qashqai on 19” wheels was worse than my Karoq on 19”.

Well....went for a drive on the 19” and was still impressed with the added ambience of the cream Edition interior. [ride was still good although not quite as good as the se spec car] ended up getting a good deal on the test drive car and bought it!!!!!!

picking it up on Friday!

Wonder what tyre pressure people have in their cars on delivery -- I found the ride in my Karoq with 18" wheels far too harsh.   Then someone on here mentioned they had checked their own car and found the tyres were 40PSI and said I should check.  Sure enough my tyres had been delivered with  45PSI !!! no wonder the ride was so hard.   I Let out 10psi all round and the ride has become much better -- dread to think what the ride would be like with more than 40PSI and 19 inch wheels !!

Hi I think the post from OldKaroq was referring to PDI ( pre delivery inspection ) or prehaps the obvious lack of one ( in lieu of the tyre pressures being so high )

Correct!

Sorry yes it was a sarcastic comment aimed at another failed Pre Delivery Inspection. A previous new car (Kia) had huge (delivery) tyre pressures and it was too much trouble to correct these pressures before handing over to the customer. No wonder the ride was hard!!

Hi,

my qashqai had 16 rims with nice fat tyres, never tried one with 19 inch rim. I note that for normal driving the correct pressure on the karoq with 19 inch rim is 14% higher than the 18 rim so on same suspension must be harder. I am sure that there are advantages with the 19 rim that a ‘keen’ driver would appreciate, eg better handling, faster turn in etc, but as a sedate driver I like the more comfortable ride. The point I am making is that the customer should be able to choose across the range. I thought the days had gone of Henry Ford “you can have any colour you wants as long as it’s black”!

i paid extra for a set of 8 inch rims and tyres, but as an expensive consequence have a redundant set of crater wheels and tyres

8 inch rims? That IS going to be comfortable!

Oops, but they are amazing, never seen the like before.
